This reminds me: I never 'got' The Flamingo as a desired place to stay EXCEPT for the pretty back yard. Lovely landscaping, at least two really pretty wedding chapels, and the live flamingos in residence there. The inside of the place felt like an assisted living facility, i.e. largely old people ('cause I was in my younger years then and everyone else looked old) and why bother? Never stayed there, never even gambled there to any degree; only went inside to look for a particular restaurant which I never found.
Now Flamingo management has once again upgraded their back yard with what appears to be a very appealing swimming pool complex. Too late for me, I haven't worn a bathing suit in years and don't plan to. But I sure will stop in to look at it.

Maybe done when I get there in June.
I think it is going to be awesome! I never really understood people putting down certain resorts. If you don't like it, just don't go. That leaves room for the rest of us who do enjoy it!

Well, many of us knew the Flamingo in its heyday...which was long ago. And the deterioration from that point has been slow and gradual. I'm given to understand that this was a CET "ugly stepchild" property almost from the day they acquired it, meaning that they intended to keep operating but not improving it. And as far as I can tell, for about fifteen years...they didn't.
It's kind of a pain that all the hotel/casinos on the Flamingo/Strip corner are either kind of run-down or hideously expensive. I guess they all think, you have the location, what else do you want...peasant? And the fact that the Strip is pretty much completely owned by three megacorporations has prevented anyone from coming in there and reversing that trend.
