FYI credit card holds at Harrahs LV

Had a room booked at Ballys and 1 at Harrahs for 3 days each. Got a surprise when my credit card had pending charges from Intercontinental Hotels for $150. Had a hold for Ballys and it was shown as Ballys on my credit card pending section.l Tried to search online and found Venetian is connected to Intercontinental hotels, but all we did was use the Venetian drive to get to Harrahs parking garage. Wow I hope Venetian isn't charging $150 for that, plus they didn't have my credit card. Upon further searching and inquiring I was told at Harrahs checkout that the property had formerly been a Holiday Inn and they haven't updated the credit card hold charging to reflect Harrahs. Holiday Inns are a part of Intercontinental hotels. Mystery solved.

For a 3 day stay at Ballys the hold was $300. For a 3 day stay at Harrahs the hold was $150.

When I checked in I was asked if I wanted to give a CC for my comped rooms. I usually do . I have never seen it show up even when I check on line. I have read about the holds showing up how do you see it?

We checked in at Harrahs on my friends comp this time and she didn't give a CC so no hold. Just so you know you don't have to give the cc for rooms charges,

If you are one who checks your credit card account online daily you will see the hold charges, then see them drop off without ever hitting your cc statement you get in the mail (unless of course you skip out owing something...LOL).

It can be a little unsettling if you aren't familiar with the process.

I usually don't check on my cc daily, but I had received an email from my cc company thanking me for using one of their preferred partners Intercontinental Hotels(IH). Red Flag for me, didn't stay at any IHs, so what is the reason for this pending charge?

I found out one of my other cc was used on the east coast when I got a similar email for using my cc at Chik fil a. Red flag here too, I don't Chik fil a and I wouldn't use a cc for any fast food meals. Then I found the other charges. I haven't been on the east coast for 15 years and I still had my cc. I had recently given this cc over the phone to my car insurance agent's office clerk, won't do that again.

On my AMEX card, I have setup my account to have all charges, including pending charges, sent to me via text message. It is annoying, but I like knowing what charges are coming through. Some charges may appear to be charged multiple times, but in reality it is the same charge being updated. Bar holds, hotel holds, etc. are good examples.
