Getting the Runaround at Strip Hotels Check-In

I'm arriving Tuesday night for 5 night (comped)at Paris. Im expecting no problems checking plus I'm banking on getting a free upgrade to either a Red Room or "P" room!

Keep hope alive!!!!
Since you gain three hours flying east to west you can alleviate the problem by not flying so late in the day. Also I would never book a Vegas hotel through a third party as you should always be able to get a better deal with the hotel or through their player's club website. Your description of where you play and how long you stay indicates to me that you should contact a host. All we play is quarter VP but we have developed several host relationships at various properties that allow for comped rooms upon request. Finally I would never pay in advance unless the amount of the savings is spectacular. When they have your money they have you by the gonads.

Put that on a tee shirt!
If you know you're arriving late - CALL the property a few days before your arrival, and have them note that on your reservation.

That should help - also $20 tip can work wonders.

I've had similar problems. This has only happened to me with late arrival. As Jerry Seinfeld said...'They know how to TAKE the reservation, they just don't know how to HOLD the reservation. And it's the HOLD part that makes the reservation. Without the HOLD there really is no reservation.'
The desk personnel are trained to please the customer standing in front of them, and they do. But that leaves the left overs for you when you get in late. It's just the way it works.
Now I never arrive late. If I can't get to the airport until an 8:00pm flight, I book a 6:30am for the following morning. That gets me in around 10:00am (from Philly) and I get a nice room, non-smoking, near the elevator, on a higher floor. If I tried asking for that stuff at night they'd laugh in my face.

This last year I had a 4 night stay comped at the Palms in one of their regular rooms. I had upgraded and paid for the Fantasy Tower which is a newer group of rooms. I specifically said that I would be checking in late on Friday night. Upon arrival, guess what, no room. Didn't have either the regular room or the upgraded Fantasy Tower Room which I wanted. I complained and was upgraded to the Palms Place condo with a kitchen, balcony and large tub. It was a little longer walk but it was a very nice room. Ate at Simon's which was a great restaurant and the atmosphere was fantastic.
I agree that you could do yourself a real favor by using your players' club and/or a host and avoiding Priceline et al, completely. I am a real low roller and I have no trouble getting free room offers and low priced rooms year round. Back in the day, most LV hotels would not let you check in on Saturday nights, if you booked in advance. I was told they like to keep the rooms for walk-ins who come in from California for the weekend. So, like others have said, if you could come in earlier in the day, or arrive on Friday or Sunday, I think that would help, too.
You are giving these casinos your hard earned cash--you deserve some good hotel rates and upgrades!!!!!
I had this happen at Caesars back in Dec. 2001. I arrived at 9:30 pm on a Tuesday night (I think it was a Tuesday) and they said because I was checking in so "late" and that they were all booked up, I had a choice of a Murphy bed in the living room of a non-smoking suite or 2 doubles in a smoking room. I had prepaid for the first night (booked directly through Caesars), so they knew I was coming and coming in late. Didn't matter.
I chose the non-smoking living room; they pulled down the bed but didn't even make up the bed. Just put the sheets on the mattress for me to do it.
I switched rooms as fast as I could the next morning, but it put such a damper on my trip I didn't have a good time. The new room wasn't any better than the room at the Gold Coast I would have paid $25 for. The headboard was right next to the door to the room that adjoined my room, and there was such a big gap between the door & the floor I heard everything said and done in the next room. Plus the headboard was on the side of the wall that led to the hallway door, so I heard EVERYONE talking in the hall as they walked by.
Then when I got home they charged me AGAIN for the first night, and I had to call on my own dime to get it straightened out.
Wrote the manager about my poor experience; all he said was they don't guarantee non-smoking rooms, even though I had already paid for it.
Needless to say, I have never stayed there again and don't hesitate to warn people. (BTW: The previous time I stayed at Caesars was awesome, and I gave glowing reviews to everyone who asked about my stay).
Never will stay again at Caesars LV.
Do you not gamble at all? If you do, you need
to get a players club card and USE IT.

If you gamble much at all you will get some sort of response from the property I would think. I have never have had happen what you are talking about. I typically book through the property. Not always, still no problems that you mention. I would be pretty upset also if they told me they were overbooked.

Are you getting a huge discount going through your vendor? I just would not want the hassle.
My offer came from Caesars Palace itself...because I was have a players card. It wasn't through a third party.
