Harrah's Bait and Switch

I am another who will never stay at Harrah's Las Vegas ever again. Several months ago, I booked the Petit Suite at Harrah's in conjunction with the Invitational Poker Tournament. I checked in through the Diamond check in, but didn't pay that much attention. When I got to my room, it was not the Petit Suite, but a rather small room with no view. I immediately went down to find out what happened and was rudely told that it was a busy weekend and that the Petit Suites were booked. I told the woman I had booked it months ago, but she said there was nothing she could do. I told her that usually when a room is unavailable, a customer is upgraded, not downgraded.

I passed up better offers at Bally's and Paris because I wanted to check out the suite at Harrah's. Unfortunately, apparently Harrah's prefer to downgrade rather than upgrade it's diamond members.

Harrah's will no longer be one of my choices. I still haven't gotten my survey yet to let them know.

This is just a warning to people to book rooms at Harrah's. BEWARE!!!
Don't wait for the survey. Contact them. They don't always send one out.
Hi Deetee:

Did you book on line and get a reservation receipt that referenced the "Petit Suite" or did you go through a host who told you the type of room to expect? If you went through a host, I would get rid of him or her.
Went through the website since the poker tournament was included. It said Petit Suite. I will find an email for them and send them a love note.

Thanks

I posted my complaint on their Facebook page and I got a response

Thank you for contacting Harrah's Las Vegas!

It is my pleasure to assist you with your reservation inquiry. Our rooms types, smoking/non-smoking, views, location etc. are based upon the availability on that day. We apologize for any disappointment this may of caused you. If there is anything else we can do to further assist you, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Apparently confirmed reservations mean nothing to them. If they give away your room before you check in at 3:30 PM, which is earlier than they advertise, too bad for you.
This is why I don't like the "$20 trick".
detee, that looks like the lame email my hubby got from Bellagio when they tried to ruin my birthday surprise.
You didn't miss much anyway. The Petite Suite at Harrahs is nothing more than a regular room with an extra sofa and coffee table, maybe a few more square feet. Same bathroom.

Similar thing happened years ago at Laughlin. First time there we were put in a gorgeous suite without even asking. Months later, a Host called me to book a slot tourney, said we would have "a suite and a gift basket." Well, we got there, no suite, no gift basket, very average room. Went to talk to Host, she said "we had a lot of big players come in this week." OK. See ya. Would have been OK with the room if not for the anticipation of the nice suite.

Hosts always say they'll do what they can but no guarantee (unless you are really a big player). And, it can be first come first served, too. They don't hold anything, so if the suites fill up before you get there, too bad for you.
Actually when it comes to the $20 trick, I look more favorable upon it. Then I can probably get the room I reserved.
Agree with deetee 100% on the $20 "trick". Works wonders at check in!!
