Harrahs Rincon - San Diego

Staying there soon for 2 nights. Any tips or inside info on the place?

Looking for gambling (VP mostly) comments, special deals (on food mostly), things to do at the property or nearby. Any tips/hints appreciated.
HR (Harrahs Rincon) is located in north San Diego County north east of Escondido. The pools are great and if you have time, treat yourself to the riverrock massage. Valley View Casino is not too far. People say VV has better paying VP and at one time offered comped buffets for new sign ups. The last time I went to HR, I drove the long way from Phoenix going through Julian taking the back roads to HR. The next day I visited the observatory at Palomar Mountain then drove state highways to the coast and spent time at the botantical gardens. Another trip, I visited the Birch Aquarium at Scripps and the beach cities (Pacific and Ocean) before driving inland to HR.

Be prepared to do lots of driving. There's tons to do in the San Diego area. It's a matter of how much driving you want to do and how much patience you have driving back late afternoon during rush hour traffic. Check out this website, https://www.sandiego.org/nav/Visitors/Regions/NorthCounty/
The casino itself is not very large but has decent video poker. They have an outdoor stage where national acts come and play during the summer. I saw Heart there and it was incredible. I'm not really into them but Incubus will be coming. The Jacksons will also be coming to Rincon. Here is a link for the Reader. I pick one up every week. It has great information on San Diego entertainment. https://www.sandiegoreader.com/

From Rincon, if you take a right, it will lead you to Valley View and they do give a free Lobster Buffet to new sign ups. Valley View usually receives the top award for overall best casino. They do not have live poker, it's electronic. https://valleyviewcasino.com/

If you take a left from the casino about two miles to highway 76, take a left on highway 76 travel about six miles or so and on the right will be Casino Pauma. Small casino with no buffet. They just had Starship (featuring Mickey Thomas) and are soon going to have BJ Thomas. https://casinopauma.com/

Take a right from Casino Pauma and about six more miles down or so on the left will be Pala Casino. The largest Casinos in North San Diego County. Choices is the largest buffet with over 200 items. John Pinette and Terry Fator are coming soon. https://palacasino.com/

Pechanga is a few miles north in Temecula. https://www.pechanga.com/

An hour south is Barona. There's a BOGO for the buffet in the POV. https://barona.com/
Sycuan. No buffet. National musical acts perform here during the summer. https://www.sycuan.com/
Viejas. https://viejas.com/

Here is a link for the Southern California Gaming Guide. I pick one up every month at 7-11. https://thegamingguide.com/

You have Sea World, The World Famous San Diego Zoo, The Wild Animal Park (Now Called The San Diego Zoo Safari Park). This is the closest to Rincon.

Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the info. thus far! We have one full day and an extra evening to fill.

I am now planning on going to Palomar for a few hours. I would never have thought of this myself, so thianks for the idea!

As to Valley View casino - I will stop in there and check it out. How good is the lobster buffet? Lots of times these lobsters are very small tails and not what you expect - how are they here?

Enjoy Palomar

Rincon's Pool

Rincon had gutted it Video Poker a few months ago due to the "business strategy" of a new casino executive, but apparently many (but not all) of the games have been restored very recently.

I enjoyed the place myself but it is a bit isolated.

Cheers
Looks like we are timing our trip just right - we like 8/5 Bonus VP at 25 cent level.

Thanks to everyone for all the helpful information - still would like to know how good the lobster buffet is at Valley View.

The lobsters are small and you can only get one piece at a time. Now, the overall buffet is considered to be the best buffet around, with Choices at Pala being second. You can't beat the price for the first buffet - $0.00 :-) I had a lobster buffet at MGM several years back, around the holidays. I remember that being very similar. Small lobster and only receiving one or two at a time. I also remember the price being a little more than $0.00 ;-)

Rincon has been running a promotion. Play for 30 minutes and acquire 25 tier reward credits is good for a free buffet.

Do you know if the Rincon promotion is still valid? Would be great for us. I like to check things out ahead of time since you often do not find out about them until it is too late to use.

Thanks for the info on the VV buffet - I will definately go there.
