How are the roads when it's snowing between Sacramento and Harrahs Tahoe?

If the 2 week extended forecast is correct I will have dry roads for my trip to Harrahs Tahoe. However, if it should snow on my drive, which way is best maintained and cleared of snow?

Sacramento to Stateline, NV via 80, then 267 down to the lake with scenic drive around the eastern(Nevada) side of the lake.

Sacramento to Stateline, NV via 50, approaching from the south side of the lake?

Or is there a better way that is usually cleared of snow frequently?

We will have tire chains(we've checked them and made sure they fit our car) with us and hubby knows how to drive in the snow.

For now our plans are to stay in Fresno one night, then about 7am the next morning leave for Stateline which will put us in Sacramento around 10am.

50 from Sac if the weather is clear, and no slides, road hazards or accidents.

If you can access CHP on your phone along the way? I always Check for which road
has accidents. Truckee CHP is a good place to look on that site.

Any probs on 50, I prefer staying on 80 as long as possible, and cutting over to Tahoe
when you're almost there.

80 is the Priority , and usually First cleared, cuz thats also the way the Big rigs go.

That sounds good. I should be able to get the CHP sites on my phone, I'll try tonight. I was concerned about 50 as the Harrahs Tahoe website said 50 will be closed at Echo Summit. I found out today that they aren't starting until mid April, maybe later if there's still some snow days. I will be back home by then.

There's a website to check for updates www.Way2tahoe.com Plan is to close 50 for about 10 to 15 days, then once it is reopened they will be escorting traffic for a few additional days.

Best advice is to call Harrah's Tahoe before you leave on your drive.. The 50 if open is always kept clear since the casino's need those roads clear so you can bring money to them.

I went up there last year at this time and it has been snowing and they kept the roads clear and had chp escorts ready if needed
