Thanks Marcus. I still think there's an issue about the certificates moving forward. Both DBueler and I got $100 certificates last summer that we used. At that point, neither of us had made Diamond in 2013 but we both had made Diamond in 2012 and my understanding is that we got the certificates as part of something special CET was doing for folks who made Diamond in 2012 as part of the transition to the new tier system/levels.
Well, people who were not Diamond in 2012 but who made Diamond in 2013 also received a certificate last year. When I made Diamond in the summer of 2013 I therefore thought I would get a certificate but it appeared I would have to wait until April 1st of this year if CET was only providing one certificate a year. So, for my trip in a bit more than 2 weeks, I'm expecting to receive a $100 dining certificate for having earned Diamond last year. If I don't, that's false advertising in my view as this was stated as a benefit for the aspirations level 1 (then 15,000 but as of 4/1/14, 40,000) in 2013. It would also be unfair to people who were diamond in 2012 and 2013 and yet received only one certificate rather than two.
I've already earned Diamond in 2014 that will make me Diamond through March 31st of next year. Based on what Mare said it sounds like the new brochure, related to the old Diamond Level Tier 1 (now 15,000) is doing away with the $100 certificate.
My bankroll for my last trip and the upcoming one is, for me, very good and so while I won't miss the $100 certificate in a major way in a financial sense it is, at a minimum, annoying that CET would take away what was not a super expensive for them but nevertheless nice perk for Diamond 15,000 TC players. The crappy renewal gifts I'm hearing about are kind of like salt on an open wound.
In retrospect, it looks like the $100 certificates were all about softening the blow about raising the Diamond requirement from 11,000 to 15,000 and now that the transition has taken place CET is transitioning out the certificates and instead you have to earn tens of thousands of more tier credits (now 40,000) to receive a $100 dining certificate. That's disappointing.
So the benefits from Diamond go back basically to 2 free show tickets a month, the diamond lounges, and shorter lines. Given that I like staying in CET hotels making Diamond is still worth it for me and I can earn 15,000 TCs over the course of the year relatively easily but the decision is annoying and has me thinking about diversifying my play even more to non-CET properties. (I'm planning for a day or two of blackjack and VP play at Bellagio so my main casinos would be Bally's, Cosmo and Bellagio + El Co downtown and a dose of Goldcoast or Palace Station for bingo.) CET will always be a "base" for me during a trip but now I'll focus on mixing it up even more. (As Jean said many years ago, don't get married to a casino.) That's CET's loss.
