Mattress Fire at Ballys---- Jan. 16, 2011---Everybody OK

Synopsis of a few different stories reported:

The sprinkler system at Bally's contained a mattress fire to one room, at 2:47 p.m. Sunday, on the 25th floor. One man was treated for smoke inhalation, No other injuries were reported. Fire remains under investigation.

Thinking they were talking about South tower, as reported in a different story, it was Tower closest to strip. Pretty sure it brought up bad memories of the 1980 fire.
thats why i stay @ Ballys. its hot there!!!! very glad no one was seriously injured.
Elephant in the room question...
Somebody smoking in bed?

Yeah...poor Ballys and their fire history.
I bet every fire truck in Vegas showed up.
Glad there were no other injuries.
Smoke inhalation is nothing to sneeze at...no pun intended.
The big difference between this and the (then) MGM fire is sprinklers. Every hotel room, every hallway, every public (and employee) area in that building (and every major Vegas hotel) is now sprinklered -- something that wasn't in place in 1980.

With the exception of a fire that starts on the outside of the building (like the 2008 Monte Carlo fire), or some huge explosion that also starts a fire, we likely (and hopefully) will never see a Vegas hotel fire anything like the 1980 fire ever again.

I left the day before but gave Tennis_Bum my Bally's room for 2 more nights- he reports about the fire in his TR.
We were in North Tower.
He humped down 22 floors of stairs, saw the firemen go up all that way.
It was handled completely calmly and professional- the casino never knew.
EMT's handled the few elderly w/ oxygen from the stairs climb.
One bed caught on fire on the 25th floor-
Bum never smelled smoke, only saw water coming down the front of his window when he returned to the room
