MGM Grand, New York New York, or Mandalay Bay.

I've accumulated enough loyalty points on MyVegas slots so that I qualify for the resort fee night.  I've haven't stayed on the strip since the 1980's when I owned stock in Sahara Corp and had comped nights. Which of the three above whould you choose?  I'm looking for advice from all the experts here.  Thanks.

I would stay at NY NY, for the location.  We like playing at park next door and the free tram there runs all the way to the Ballagio.  We also like playing at the bars at Park , Aria, and the Ballagio  Mandalay is a long way from everything, but might have the best rooms.  The MGM rooms are a long walk from everthing too.   If you apply for the MGM credit card it makes you pearl which gives you free parking at those strip properties.

Mandalay Bay's location pretty much forces you to use some kind of transit to get anywhere else unless you want to go to maybe Luxor or Excalibur. MGM Grand is so damn huge, it can take you 35 hours to walk from your room to the Strip (I exaggerate only slightly). I also like NYNY for the somewhat more quirky atmosphere--it's a bit more thematic.

I must confess that my primary objective, if I was staying on the Strip, would be to find the best way to get the hell off of it and get to a non-gouge casino. So NYNY or MGM wins there, as I could take the bus to the Orleans easily enough from that corner--or the Strip bus downtown.

If "where does the gambling suck least" is a factor, it's pretty much a three-way tie there, sad to say. Same with value and quality of food (awful for what you get). Squeeze your freebies, maybe give them enough play to get more (it won't be much more), and concentrate future efforts away from the Strip megatoilets.

I also no longer stay on the strip.  But if I had a free room my preference is Mandalay Bay, I like that far better than the other 2.  Sure it's at the end but that means it's usually less crowded.  And I like the casino layout.  The easy, free tram takes you down to Luxor and/or Excal and then you're in the middle of everything.

Thanks to all for your help.  I greatly appreciate it.

To add to this topic, I personally like NYNY of the 3 the most, but it does depend on your "tastes". I never have done well gambling at Mandalay, but also regularly stay at Luxor (the Mrs. really likes it there). We have stayed at MGM comped and it is a big place, but I also feel it's a little higher end than NY NY or Mandalay. For me NYNY has a nice layout for play, there are a number of IMO really good food places that are close to each other. (the deli, NFI and Tom's Urban are our places of choice)

Gambling wise it's a toss up I think, I've actually done the best at Excalibur on VP at the bars. I do have the MGM card which is nice to have. Put all costs on there and then use the points for other comps and stuff. I will say that since NYNY is on the side of the strip with most other places the location is probably the best overall.

Cheers.

I drive there so I do have transportation.  I appreciate your input.   When you stay at Luxor do you get a room in the Pyramid or the Tower?

We usually do pyramid, my wife likes it there and kind of a cool view overlooking the central area of the pyramid. I know that tower tends to be a little closer to move to Excalibur but not a big deal for us. I do like eating at the backstage deli and pyramid cafe and public house in Luxor too.

Cheers
