I hope many of you have read the LVRJ article quoting the architect of Las Vegas - Steve Wynn. Say what you want about his failings, he was a genius. My favorite piece of writing about Wynn is Deke's account of the Mirage opening - it was a crazy idea, it was too expensive, it would never be built, it would never open, it would lose money. When Mirage opened they had just over 3 weeks of operating cash. But the property was superb - it made over a million a day in the casino in December 89. And the best anecdote is when Wynn asked his casino head to send him a list of gamblers who had signed up for million dollar credit lines. He was expecting maybe 30 or 40 names - he got 500. The game changed, Vegas changed, and the city was transformed. TI followed, Venetian, Palazzo, Mandalay Bay and of course Bellagio among others. Thank you Steve, you made Vegas the way it is today.
