My Two-Cents on the "New" Reward Program

As is seemingly always the case when properties change their rewards' program, the Marketing Department puts out a spin about how much better the club is becoming when, if fact, it is usually found that the rewards are actually less than before. Never has this been more evident then in the launch of the latest version of the Caesars Rewards program.

New is "for our special members who only need to accrue 10,000 tier points per quarter" there will be a special invitation to exclusive parties and events. This use to be the case for ALL Diamond and 7 Star players. Now look through the fog of the hyperbole and you'd notice these parties and events are for their very top players only...after all 10,000 tier points mean $50,000 for slot players and $100,000 for video poker players and this amount needs to be played every THREE MONTHS! (and the special events are almost always a free dinner and dance to some local swing band--big whoop!)

The funniest new "bennie" they added was "you can now transfer up to 5,000 points to a friend up to twice per year!" Really, we're supposed to excited because we can transfer $50 to a friend every six months? Exactly who in marketing came up with "amazing" new program?

And that's about it. They've launched this whole new marketing scheme with new cards for what amounts to keeping their very top tier players happy and scraps pretty much for everyone else.

If you're reading this and you've been a Diamond member longer than about three years ago, you might remember when you have enjoyed free gifts at check-in, cookies or chocolates in your room each night, Diamond Lounges with top tier liquors and carving stations with prime rib and ham. NOW? Diamond Lounges curtail hot food to one or two hours per day, causing a mad scramble and the hot food tends to be chicken wings and hot cheese for your tortilla chips.

I've been reading posts here and other pages where Diamond members who used to get the corporate coupons good for seven days a week now have been relegated to off-nights, less cash (now always reel rewards) all have gone down considerably. In my personal case, in 2011, I played $250,000 through machines (granted, I'm a VP player), which is more than double the requirement for Diamond and what was my reward? No more weekend comps, no more cash coupons, and I was notified by my Host that I no longer am eligible for Host privileges...WHAT? More than TWICE the Diamond minimum!

Okay, so there's my rant. Of course, I can simply move on to another chain (Stations, Coast, South Point, etc), and I'm considering this. I'm not much of a drinker but I do enjoy the free drinks in the DL, and I enjoy the diamond check ins, and the line passes. So, I can't honestly say I'm not going to renew, though I'm leaning that way.

Many of you know me from my summer reports and may have noticed that I haven't posted with the LVA much, though I continue to lurk. (BTW- I'm taking this summer off and staying home this year).

Bottom line: I'm disappointed with Caesar's. I'm frustrated that they continue to shave off their comps and goodies, I get upset that they continue to renew CEO Loveman's contract while he leads them down the imploding path with a debt higher than most small countries while enjoying muli-million dollar salaries and bonuses while depleting the "middle line" player. But it's their company and I can always just leave. So...I'm giving all of this much thought.
Amen Jman. Like I wrote in my post it ain't what it used to be a Diamond. I have been a Diamond since Total Rewards began and remember the great comps you got as a Diamond. I can't even get weekend rooms anymore in Vegas and and only rooms at their C class hotels. Like you I will probably stick it out this year as I enjoy the Diamond lounges and the line passes. I've noticed that Platinum lines are a thing of the past so it's even worse for them.
What's really happened here, is that in the past there were three statuses Gold, Platinum and Diamond. Now Diamond is the new Platinum and 7 Star the new Diamond. Honestly with so little to play at Harrah's casinos and the marketing getting worse and worse, why oh why still play there? $100K for a line pass?
I'm platinum--which never got me anthing near home (Chicagoland). Now that plats cannot use the special lines, why bother? I know I'll never make diamond.

So, I decided to play on my husband's card so at least one of us can be diamond.

Last year I got just over 6,000 points.

Joy

I am Platinum, but with the loss of the line "cuts' at check in, casino cage and buffet, I plan to look at other players clubs. There is no more benefit for being loyal to Total Rewards.
If one only plays in Vegas, I can see where one may not want to renew diamond as there are other places to play.

For the 1st 6 weeks of this year, I had some serious good luck in Laughlin and Phoenix which translated to lots of points on my card. As a result, I've seen an improvement in offers for Laughlin and Phoenix. My Vegas offers are about the same. Since most of my play is local. the benefits of being diamond outweigh the benefits of any of the other local casinos. The paytables at my local McHarrahs are better than Gila River or Casino Arizona locations.
I also wrote about the lack of comps on my platinum level. I have to pay for a room in LV first time since I have been going out in the last 20 years. When I was gold I got free rooms and as a Platinum I have to pay? I am playing much more VP and this might be a factor.

I wasn't aware they chopped to line pass also. When I was there in December at Harrahs you they still had Platinum check in and buffet. When did they stop this?

Jon we will sure miss your Reports this summer. It was one of the things that got me (and I'm sure many others) logging in everyday to LVA.
Hey J, Now you will have more time to Post, than just Lurk........ lol
I don't think anyone will disagree with you.

I got over 25k tier last year, so IF I ever get back to AC?
At least their DL will be free for me & a guest. lol
But thats about it.

Nothing better, and alot worse for W.C. Diamonds.
Will I make it to 11k this year? Its a longshot, cuz I'm nowhere near.

Long story short, it sure ain't like it used to be.

I also wish CE would Fire Loveman. Hes milked that gravytrain too long.
Sionow,
Have not heard of the new program details untill now and it does not sound good for me. I believe that the entire system has been changing for VP players. Play 95% VP, also low diamond last year. AC junkets that were normally comped for years, had to pay some $ for in December due to prior play. Diamond lounges in AC are much more attractive to visit even with the $10/points fee for low Diamonds over Las Vegas ones as you know. Earned about $10 per day less in brc's last trip to Las Vegas last week, over last years visit, even though earned an extra 200 or so tier higher per day of play this trip. Still have a host, as of last week at Caesars

Did have turn down service and candy on the bed this trip at the Rio! Yee-haa!!!

Always have split "major" play between Caesars and Boyd, But Caesars offers are consistently better still for shows/free play ($500 HET/$75 Boyd on last trip)for equal $ played. Comp $ earned were marginally higher at Boyd propertys for equal play, and the food cost is substantially lower here also, plus 40% discount if paying with points. And of course in Las Vegas, Boyd offers better % VP at lower denominations. I guess I'll hang in there and see what happens.

Oh yea, I'll miss your daily trip reports this summer also!

MissL - it is good to know that you have had some luck at the local casinos (local as in Laughlin and Phx!) I have been curious about AkChin but it it just seems like so far to go for a few hours of play. Considering taking the bus from Sun City West (parent's house) one of these days though. I don't go into any of the others anymore either.
