Need room recommendations for Harrahs Reno

Just booked an offer from Harrahs Northern Nevada Air for August 12th through August 14th. Fly out of LAX to Reno. Usually have a choice between Reno and Tahoe, but only good for Reno this time. This will be the last nights of "Hot August Nights" in Reno.

I have never stayed at Harrahs Reno before. If you have a preference of one tower over the other, please indicate which tower and why you prefer that tower. I may not get to choose, but if I do I want to know which to select.

Is there a Diamond Lounge and is it worth the time? Anyone know the hours the DL is open?

Any other recommendations for Reno or Hot August Nights are appreciated.
Regardless of what my confirmation has said, I've only stayed in the West Tower and prefer the view facing the plaza/Virginia Street. The rooms and bathroom are small, smaller than Rincon. The room is about the same size as an average room in the Central Tower at Harrahs Laughlin. I have a couple pictures of the room in this thread, https://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=9&threadid=304728&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE= Scroll down for the Harrahs Reno pictures.

paging CLV
Lisa............how many time have I answered this ?

Ditto what Lisa said about the rooms. West Tower is our Fav and IF you can
get a View of Virginia St. is the BEST especially with H.A.N..

Definatley plan to walk around outside........Virg. St. is blocked off the whole week, and its a
constant carshow, live bands & some cruising too every evening.

IF you like classic cars, this is Exactly the Right time to be in Reno area.

Sun. morning, 10am is the HAN Parade. Be ON Virg. St. to view the Parade of Cars.
Yes, CLV will be there with camera.......last year our best friends car was one of the winners.

After the parade on Sunday, MOST of the cars go home. We always stay til Mon. cuz its Less Traffic.
You will be Glad you are flying out of Reno on Sun. and Not driving. lol
Good Luck, its a Fun time.
OK, I'll request a West tower room with a Virginia St. view thanks to both of your recommendations. Lisa, your pictures of a West tower room were very helpful.

CLV I'm glad you told me about the parade of cars on Sunday morning, our flight home doesn't leave Reno until 7pm so we'll have plenty of time to watch the parade.

I like the classic cars, but I reach a tolerance level, my husband will be out there the whole time we're in Reno. I'll have to pack him some sunscreen, a hat for his cute bald head, and some lunch and water. We were in Tahoe last year when they had some of the cars up there for a small show a few days before HAN.

I was really happy the offer dates this year coincided with the HAN dates, knew husband would be happy. I won't have to feel guilty about ignoring him while I play vp, he prefers slots or sports books.

Will the live bands be outside or only inside the casinos? Being a baby boomer, you know I like my 50's and 60's music.

CLV I'll be looking for you and your camera at the parade.

Check out the HAN website, or pick up one of the freebie magazines in Reno
to find out which oldies groups are playing:
1. Downtown Reno
2. Sparks/Victorian Square/J.A. Nugget
3. Grand Sierra
4. Atlantis

Those are the 4 biggest Venues, with Live music bandstands (outside/free) at each location.
Most years you hear groups like.......The Turtles.......3 Dog night.......Gerry & Pacemakers....Hermans
Hermits........Village People........etc. (can you tell I've been going for allotta years? lol)

You can easily Taxi to any of the locations..........all within about a 5 mile radius.
Taxi is easy to get around as parking is at a Premium, and you often Can't find parking unless
you are staying at that particular hotel. Usually have to show Room key or have a sticker for your car.

Otherwise I would recommend a Rental car..........but NOT during HAN. Too many street closures also.
Raisin:

I once stayed in the East tower and it was HORRIBLE! Would never do it again even if it was free. The room I had was worn and outdated. The next time I stayed in the West tower and it was nothing fancy but at least it was clean and a little more modern.

The DL is OK. Small room off the entrance to the buffet. The hot items were pretty good and I think they come out at 4. The rest is standard chips, dips and vegetables. No computer terminals here but the bartender was very friendly. Oh, and no big screen TV's. I was up there to watch the NCAA semi finals and the only TV's are two small ones behind the bar. They do usually have a big bowl of chocolate mints which I may have had two, three or twenty.

I like Tahoe lots better!

Ted in Chico
Tedde, you must be Diam. if you went to the DL.
I haven't gone to the Harr. Reno DL in ages, because is so small & hardly has any food items,
other than chips...........and if I want a drink? I can get one at the machines. Not worth the trip
if you ask me. I usually skip it.

However, I've Never stayed in a bad room in East tower..........Can't believe they'd put a Diam
in a room like that? Most are remodeled, and nice, albeit smallish rooms.
Only reason I don't like to stay in East tower, is because its so far & desolate, in the back.

Of course, during HAN, you might like the Quiet back there. lol

Its a rambunctious time in Reno during HAn. If you don't like cars, and revving engines, & People?

NOT the time to come to town.
I normally stay in the West Tower when we go to Reno. I find the rooms clean and adequately furnished. You won't mistake them for the Wynn or the Venetian but they do the trick.

This past trip in April, my host surprised me with a room in the East Tower. I groaned when I saw the room keys and had to check out the room before we actually moved into it. The room ended up being a one bedroom Jacuzzi suite! It was huge and my husband really enjoyed the Jacuzzi tub after bowling in his tournaments.

As I said, I still prefer to stay in the West Tower mainly for the convenience. You can take the elevator straight down to Starbucks in the morning or to the bridge casino (where I normally hang out) or to the main casino. No fuss, no muss!

I did enjoy our stay in our East Tower suite, but I will continue to ask to be put into the West Tower as it is a long walk from the East Tower to anywhere that you want to go. (most restaurants and the main casino are in the West Tower) (I did manage to loose a few pounds on this trip so maybe that long walk is not such a bad thing!)

The Harrah's Reno Diamond Lounge is a joke. The only appeal to it is to be able to get away from the constant buzz of the casino for a while. I have never had anything offered to me in there besides cheese and crackers and fruit (besides drinks of course). The hours are also very limited so look at the schedule beside the door. It is located next to the entrance to the buffet.
Gail, thanks for your experience with an East Tower room and DL assessment. Last year was the first time I'd used the free flight offer from Lax to Tahoe and I was given a very nice room at Harveys. I keep getting home too late to call Harrahs Northern NV air to request the West tower with Virginia ST view. Thanks for letting me know not all East Tower rooms are to be avoided.
Just left Harrahs Reno this morning. My first time staying there. Room was in the West tower and it was nice. No complaints especially since it was comped. Now in Tahoe at Harveys. Room om 18th floor with view of lake. Love it!
