Earlier this month, Ak-Chin opened its new hotel tower and I recently stayed in one of the new rooms. The registration area and lobby are gorgeous. In keeping with a southwest theme, there’s a cactus garden between the two buildings.
The new rooms are very elegant. I knew they were smaller and expected everything to be new and shiny; however, I was surprised to see a large walk-in shower and no bath tub. The super comfortable bed and large shower head, think spa shower, more than made up for the lack of bath tub and outdoor space. All the rooms in the old section have either a patio or balcony. Although it may be too hot to spend much time outside, we Arizonans like our outdoor living space.
There’s a pocket door that separates the water closet from the dressing area. A luggage rack, iron, ironing board, and shelf are located in the closet. As you can see, the refrigerator, coffee maker, ice bucket and safe are located on the other side of the fixture.
The bed faces the other side of the wall. The desk is located across from the bed to the right. A large flat screen TV is mounted on the wall above a bench in the middle and there’s another table to the right. Under the table is an air conditioning unit. Although the unit looks old fashioned, it is controlled by a very modern thermostat. It appears each room has its own unit.
If having more space is important to you, I’d recommend staying in one of the original rooms. If you like an urban feel to a room and want to sleep on a super comfy bed, try for a room in the new tower. The bed was so comfortable, I hated to leave. It was a work day and I needed to get an early start.
