New Hotel Tower at Ak-Chin

Earlier this month, Ak-Chin opened its new hotel tower and I recently stayed in one of the new rooms. The registration area and lobby are gorgeous. In keeping with a southwest theme, there’s a cactus garden between the two buildings.

The new rooms are very elegant. I knew they were smaller and expected everything to be new and shiny; however, I was surprised to see a large walk-in shower and no bath tub. The super comfortable bed and large shower head, think spa shower, more than made up for the lack of bath tub and outdoor space. All the rooms in the old section have either a patio or balcony. Although it may be too hot to spend much time outside, we Arizonans like our outdoor living space.

There’s a pocket door that separates the water closet from the dressing area. A luggage rack, iron, ironing board, and shelf are located in the closet. As you can see, the refrigerator, coffee maker, ice bucket and safe are located on the other side of the fixture.

The bed faces the other side of the wall. The desk is located across from the bed to the right. A large flat screen TV is mounted on the wall above a bench in the middle and there’s another table to the right. Under the table is an air conditioning unit. Although the unit looks old fashioned, it is controlled by a very modern thermostat. It appears each room has its own unit.

If having more space is important to you, I’d recommend staying in one of the original rooms. If you like an urban feel to a room and want to sleep on a super comfy bed, try for a room in the new tower. The bed was so comfortable, I hated to leave. It was a work day and I needed to get an early start.

very modern dressing area. I really like the red back splash and touch of red in the shower

Didn't the light coming thru on the sides of both windows bother you?? I was extremely unhappy with the poor design of the windows.

The rooms are gorgeous but I like it dark when I sleep. Between the light from the phone, the thermostat and the windows I had to purchase a sleeping mask for our 2nd stay!

Good luck

Hi Judi,
Long time no see. No, the light did not bother me. I prefer a little light when I sleep and rarely use the blackout drapes. I used the jacuzzi around 10 pm and missed being able to put my suit outside to dry.
We would go check out the new rooms, but we aren't comped on weekends. They don't see to like me after I hit two Royals for $8,000 in less than an hour two years ago.

Thanks for posting those pics, Lisa!!

We're staying there in October - and I was wondering what those new rooms looked like - thanks for sharing!!

Do you know if Ak-Chin has any type of workout/exercise room??

I was looking at their description - and I didn't notice one, but thought they might have added one, with the addition of the new tower.

Thanks - Dave
I'm not aware of any workout rooms.

The new rooms are very nice however, they are smaller than the original ones.

I too missed the balcony as they were a nice place to hang your suit and enjoy the sunshine.

Our first stay we had a room as in the pics - on our last stay the shower was totally different. There was no glass enclosure - rather the floor of the shower was the same as the floor of the toilet area with a bench and a shower curtain. I loved the bech but water did get on the floor outside of the shower.

The rooms are quite a bit smaller. Love the decor, love the showers...but think we still prefer the older tower rooms.

I will be there 8/18 with a group from a club I belong too.

Friedmush - a few weeks ago we saw a woman hit two $20,000 royals 1 hour apart on the same $5 machine. The first royal was dealt to her.

How exciting! I saw a guy hit for $2500 playing triple play quarters on the good times poker machines. He was dealt a full house, AAA77 (I think 2 7's) and the multiplier was 5 times. He dumped the full house and picked up aces
w/ kicker on the middle line.
Judi, I wonder if the type of shower is the difference between the 2 types of rooms listed with my offers.
