Our Great Race

Ak-Chin is located in Maricopa southwest of Phoenix and is about 5.0 hours from Laughlin. I live near the 51 and 101. It takes me 3.5 to 4.0 hours to drive to Laughlin and 45 to 50 minutes to drive to Ak-Chin. Try to time your drive through Phoenix so you are not driving during the evening rush hour. Traffic backs up on the 10 and will take an extra 20 minutes or so.

Harrahs Rincon is located in Valley Center outside of Escondido. Although it's a beautiful property, it's harder to get to then Ak-Chin.

If you will be in Laughlin, why not go to Phoenix afterwards? heck Mapquest, I do not think it is that far (3 hours?). Not much traffic as I recall.

Dave that is my Road trip for next Spring. Laughlin, Phoenix, Prescott Valley, Bryce, Zion, and a stop in LV ;-).

I've charted out a tenative plan on AAA to get 4 props on the Great Race:

We would leave our house and stop at Corvette Central (hubby's been wanting to go there)
Sawyer MI-249.8 3 hr.52 min.

Joliet-90.3mi 1hr.29min. (overnight)

St Louis-272mi 4 hrs. 3 min. (overnight)

Metropolis-187.3mi 2h. 54 min. (short stop)

Horseshoe IN-245mi. 3 hrs.53 min. (2 night stay) stop at Bowling Green Ky while there

Son's house Lancaster- OH-242.6mi. 3hrs. 50 min.

Our house-150.3 2 hr. 38min.


It appears to me that Horseshoe IN & St Louis have the best play as far as VP goes. Metropolis didn't look too exciting.

We're tentatively planning on leaving on Sept. 12.

If anyone here can give us info on these places or will be around then, let us know.

the great race is paying off!!

leaving on 9/2 for an east coast roadtrip (planned before I knew about the great race). we will be hitting Cherokee, Chester and AC then I am hoping to get back to Vegas before the end of September at which time I will make the drive to Laughline. that will give me 5 properties which is fine with me. I never do much with Harrah's anyway so will probably just use th points when we visit AC. Still trying to figure how to get the 6th property.

We already have four completed.....Horseshoe Hammond In, Horseshoe So. IN, Las Vegas, and Laughlin. We are thinking of a St. Louis overnighter in Sept. Hoped to get the sixth, but with school starting up soon, all the properties are just too much driving. Bummer.
