Planet Hollywood Hotel Reviews anyone??

I have a reservation for PH for the standard room. I plan on upgrading when I get there in Dec. My question is what is everyone's feedback when staying there this year. All I have read is bad reviews for this year. From checking in service to the rooms having issues. I figured $50 for a room there is pretty good though.
we were there in Jan / Feb this year, we loved it, we asked for non-smoking but when we got there, they did not have a non-smoking room as the miss america pagent was there and they were full. the guys was very accomodating, he gave us an upgrade to an optional smoking room which overlooked the fountains and was huge! it did not smell much like smoke and we just left the windows open, the bonus was the first hour we were there my husband won $6200.00 on a 75 cent bet, so this place is special, but it was nice and we enjoyed it!
The rooms are hit or miss.

If you want a view of the Bellagio Fountains, ask for a high floor (30 or above), and the North tower.

A tip at check in, will probably work, but not an absolute guarantee.
It may not be as good as it was a couple years ago, before Harrah's took it over, but it's still the best mid-Strip (& mid price) property by far, IMO. ABC Store is in the mall, just outside the casino; Earl of Sandwich is the best in the Strip version of low cost eating and Planet Dailies is the best Coffee Shop. Peepshow is a very entertaining adult show, which wife and I have seen twice. And one bonus from the bad economy is that there is no pretentious, douchebag nightclub, since Prive closed.

We stayed there a month ago and it wasn't bad. It was my first comped room @ PH and we had a standard room. My only complaint was that the room always seemed dark. The window was small and didn't let much light in and the lamps didn't do much good. We had a 23rd floor room facing CityCenter. The bathroom's were huge which was nice but I had an issue with the shampoo and conditioner bottles. Seems like a dumb complaint but the shape of the bottles and the rigidity of the plastic made it hard to get the stuff to come out.

PH is so conveniently located and I do enjoy their casino. Some of the other people in our group were @ Aria so it was nice to have them across the street.

We ate at Planet Dailies for lunch one day, it was very good. There were 6 of us and 2 of us split an order, there was so much food, the others all said they should have split too. Earl of Sandwich was good too.
TECramer, we just got back from Planet Ho last night & I had the same issues as you with the bottles in the bathroom. It won't come out.
Anyway, there are 2 ABC stores in the mall. Love Earl of Sandwich being open 24 hours a day.
A friend of mine stayed there a few months ago -- she was generally unhappy with the experience. Upon check-in the lady was not very friendly, and assigned her to a terrible room. The room, while it was strip-facing, was very small.

The headboard of the bed shared a wall with an elevator shaft, so all night long all she could hear was the grinding of the elevator moving up and down. She went down the next morning to get a different room, and before she could explain the problem, the desk clerk said, "oh, the elevator noise?" It's obviously a known problem, and she shouldn't have been assigned to that room unless the place was booked solid (it wasn't).

The room she was moved to was a small upgrade from the first room, but then they tried to charge her an additional amount ($10/night, as I recall) for the room upgrade.

Self parking stinks, and their valet has a constant wait time of about 30 minutes to get your car back. My friend was less than impressed with the place, and so was I.
Stayed at PH on my last trip for 2 nights. It will be my last time there. Any other Harrah's property is better except IP. I am a drive around town tourist while in LV. The self parking at PH is absolutely the worst ever. I will never, ever plan to stay there as long as I have an alternate option.
As for the room...yes, felt dark to me, but that doesn't bother me much. It was an average Strip room.
As for the casino...very loud, took 2 days for me to understand the layout and navigate my way through it.
As for the mall...as long as you can't walk straight through it, I find it the worst place in LV to be. I FEEL I AM WALKING THE 'CIRCLE OF DEATH' IN THEIR MALL. Never ending advertisements. It's like watching a TV channel devoted to just commercials that never ends.
Stu
Wow Stu you have problems. The best place to post this inquiry is at the "Harrahs" topic. I personally find PH to be a place I like a lot and I have stayed just about everywhere. I also find it just as good as it was before Harrahs took over. Finally I get tired of hearing people bitch about stuff like "a dark room" or a "rude employee." PH is bad because one desk clerk was not friendly and gave a person a "bad room." Did you speak up? Did you ask to see a manager? Give me a break. Finally did someone attempt to compare PH with IP?? That demonstrates a level of smarts that I cannot comprehend. The only reasonable PH comment I read was the one about self-parking. The location is ridiculous but it has always been like that from day one and has nothing to do with Harrahs taking over. Always valet. Thanks for letting me vent!!! Go Colts!!!
fingerstim -- your post is flat-out rude. Nobody was telling YOU not to go there. This is a board for people to share their own experiences and opinions. There's no call for you being snippy and rude in regards to other people's complaints. Give US a break!
