Read my lips. No resort fees.

There is a Facebook page and an accompanying Twitter account currently making the somewhat angry pronouncement that NO RESORT FEES is a scam. I find this fascinating.

During my last stay at Planet Hollywood, I noticed that every call I made from my room to request room service or a laundry pickup cost a dollar. For me, that was a new wrinkle. So, at that point, I simply stopped paying attention to the No Resort Fees hype and dismissed all of this as a disingenuous marketing ploy. My assumption is ... they will get the money from you one way or another.

But, what really fascinates me is the question of who is behind the NO RESORT FEE SCAM Facebook page and Twitter account. Could a Vegas visitor really feel passionately enough about this to launch a campaign? (I certainly don't. People will either figure it out or they won't.)

Maybe it's a disgruntled former employee. Or MGM.
Did you pay the $1/call without question at check out? I'm absolutely amazed they would consider charging for these calls where you're requesting a service that will derive revenue to them.

Frankly, to me, it's all about the bottom line as to what one has to pay for a room. If a CET hotel is more net money than a non-CET property that charges a resort fee, I'd be inclined to opt for the lowest net cost. I'm not condoning resort fees by any stretch but at the same time, if it's still cheaper, isn't that what matters? This can also apply to the airline industry as well.

I don't like the nickle & diming being done.........and up til now, I've Not paid a resort fee anywhere.
Probably because I refuse to book anywhere that has one.
And continue to Not book anywhere that has one.

Could be a former employer or MGM? lol.
But, Wasn't me! lol
I did enough flag waving & alerting the media over what Sheldon Adelson did......
and TSA nudiscanning women at McCarran.

Gotta pick our battles.

Dan,

In this case, all room charges were ultimately comped. Except tips, of course. Otherwise, I would have complained. (Maybe. I'm often quite docile on my way out of Vegas.)

CLV,

I agree. Pick your battles.

Understood. Same with me at a MGM property....if they waive off my resort fee on a comped room, I personally don't have too much to complain about.

Personally I don't mind resort fees IF I got something in return for them. Really--charging me a fee for local calls--we all have cell phones now, a daily newspaper ??? really, crappy coffee/tea in my room. If they included use of the spa, transportation of some kind, things that really account to something--then it wouldn't be so bad.
Resort fees charge you for across the board amenities whether you use them or not. Don't read the paper or use the spa, too bad, you're paying for the priveledge of having these at your disposal. CEZ is charging you for amenities that you wish to use while at the resort; you have the option not to use/pay for them. Big difference.
(Of course they're getting close to the lyrics from 'Master of the House' from 'Les Miserables'...soon they'll be charging you to look in the mirror!)
