Rio Concern

I received a two night stay offer at the Rio for free, and I have heard nothing but horror stories about the Rio recently. Is it that bad? Should I pay to stay somewhere else? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your input in advance. I like the idea of a free room, but if it bad I don't mind paying to stay somewhere else. Also any information on the pool area would be helpful.
Just got back from Vegas and the Rio was not that bad. The pool was nice. Take a look at the layout on the website. It is no Caesars but it also is free. I would stay again.
Horror stories?

Yes...think The Shining. Blood rolling down the hallway at you.

RED RUM...RED RUM!!!!!!!!

Just kidding. What other Vegas hotels do you prefer?
Gregrio can sound off on Rio here, lol.

I'm staying there Fri nite to kick start a tourney offer, but then moving to Bell.

I think Rio is fine in Ipanema tower, high floor, strip/pool view. Thats what I ask for.

I've had no problem with my stays and I'm there a lot...
YES..the RIO isn't what it used to be since Harrah's got the joint but...rooms are good even
with a little ware (Masquerade Tower is the worst/Ipanima is still in pretty good shape)

I had a VIP room on the 19th floor/Pool-Strip view a few weeks ago and it was great.
HouseKeeping does a good job, casino staff is very good, gaming is standard CET,
restaurants are good, buffet is below years ago but still good...RIO JAVE in Masquerade Village
works for me MUCH BETTER than Starbucks...like I said, I have no problem with the RIO.

WHAT ARE THE ISSUES FOLKS SEEM TO BE CONCERNED WITH?
Depends on how picky you are. I got four free nights comped at the Rio last August. We went with another couple who paid full price for their room. You can read my full summary on trip reports, under Rio.

We tried to get on the same floor, but couldn't even get assigned the same tower. We got Imanpanea sp? and they got Masquerade. They switched rooms three separate times (reasons documented on my TR) and were not really happy w/Masquerade tower. We on the other hand, could not have been more pleased. Turns out the Imp tower is the remodeled one (and maybe they save this tower for players?). OUr suite was spacious, clean, and terribly comfortable...absolutely no complaints. The shuttle service was good although sometimes the lines for the shuttle were long. We found it easier most days to walk to Gold Coast and use their shuttle to the strip. Also GC shuttle begins at 9am vs 10am for the Rio shuttle. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to book the Rio again (if it were comped). I'd absolutely insist on the Imp tower though!
If you like to gamble, you will want to stay in the Ipanima Tower. The walk to Gold Coast is shorter.
lol, if you mean from the Masquerade Tower yeah.....maybe 4min. longer.
