Rio for Thanksgiving weekend??

Those are great rates.

I see the point.I am financially comfortable.I do by choice keep a low availability on my credit cards.I do it because I have had card thief.

I've done Vegas for Thanksgiving many times over the years.     Its never that busy.   The only caveat now is the reduced number of buffets.  Its nearly impossible to get seated at any of those without a 90 minute wait line.    Pre-Covid you could walk right into any of 20 Thanksgiving buffets at various casinos.    Aside from that its really easy to get seated just about anywhere.

The biggest thing Id be worried about RIO is a small crowd size.    Word hasnt fully got out yet about the renovations.

Well, I'm debating...I thought that Thanksgiving would be high-priced. But maybe it isn't a particularly high visitation weekend, since most people are turkeying/visiting/shopping? Anyway, I looked up the room rates for that period, and using the LVA coupon code, prices from this coming Sunday through the first Wednesday are $16 a night, except $42 on Black Friday and $21 on the following day. Then, for some reason, the price leaps up to $139 on the first Thursday in December, but then after that weekend, it drops back to $16 for most of the rest of the month. Maybe the price leap is due to Horsie Week?

The Rio has its flaws, but this one's hard to pass up. I have no idea if there will be a similar deal in the 2026 LVA book, so that's an additional incentive.

I would recommend seeing Penn and Teller. It's a good show. I have seen them a couple times.

We really enjoyed it when we saw it about 9 years ago.  Also, Penn and Teller come out and do a meet and greet after the show.....or at least they did back then.

What I've heard recently is that it's not much magic and a whole lot of talking. Entertaining, perhaps, but not worth paying that much to see.

You do get 50% off tix if you're staying there.

Not to belabour the discussion on the Rio credit card incifental/security hold, I have noted the following which may help.

a) it varies tremendously by property;

 Four Queens $100 per stay.

 Downtown Grand $50 per night.

I was informed by a front desk agent that Venetian place a hold of $250 per night.

So clearly hotel's policies greatly differ  Therefore an unexpected issue may crop up for someone staying long term and not realising so much of their credit card limit has been "used" up.

I, similar to Patricia, purposely keep a low credit limit on my account, as I am more secure with a lower limit

So for myself and some others, it may not necessarily be an affordability issue, but more of an adminstrationr one. It could cause  a  surprise when making other purchases e.g getting an unexpected decline.

Therefore I believe the takeaway is that it is something to be aware of and managed, particularly for a length stay.

However having said all that, and the Rio in particular, my credit hold completely dropped off on the 5th day of my stay  and was never reinstated!

It can be more than just a clerical problem if the casino doesn't immediately release the hold when you check out. And they often don't. I've seen delays of up to five business days.

For what it's worth, my $500 hold at the Rio was released in one day. But I'm still pissed that they thought it was their right to grab and keep that much of MY money, just in case I ordered one of those $500 bagels from room service.

The best thing to do is to simply charge for purchases on the spot and not let anyone who doesn't want the bank card hold charge anything to their room. I always pay as I go anyway.

I always have to call Rio for refunds after I cancel a reservation.

When I went to see P&T @ Rio in 2018 three of us fell asleep and one was mesmerized. YMMV.

When we went we should have known we were in trouble when penn played the cello for 30 minutes as part of the pre show.

Prople were falling asleep 💤 then. The snores were noticeable

They are living off their rep.

Show is penn talking about himself & a few card tricks.
