Rio question

Going back out to vegas in august, normally we have been staying at the aria, last 2 years, however for some reason the rio offered 4 nights for free have no idea why haven't stayed their in quite some time. and I am no longer a diamond player. wife thought we ought to try it out last time we were there we had a corner room with a kitchen, living room, large bedroom and two bathrooms. should we go with this compt or stay at the aria any comments has the rio improved that much or are they hard up for guest. as a side note are there any compts out there for red rock, how does one go about getting one, thought we might try them out.
I've been at the RIO for years and I have to say, things aren't improving...
(for whatever you mean by that...) CET's off Strip stepchild is the last to
receive any attention, it simply makes CET money and remember...they will
always love our money more than they love us, lol.

Per your info on your last stay at RIO, along with dropping from the Diamond level,
I'd say you can expect a very different experience with your...comp.
Usually, at you ?level?, the comp rooms are the mountain view rooms, 600sq.ft.
no kitchen...just one large area with separate changing/sink/bathroom area.

Requesting an upgrade with one of their comp deals usually doesn't work. They'll
tell you what else is available...maybe give you a little break in room rates, but
YOU WILL PAY. Save for the kitchen, the closest thing to what you're accustom to
might be their CARIOCAS SUIT or the larger MASQUERADE SUITE but I don't recall
any of them having a kitchen (wet bar at best...)

Unless you're willing to downgrade on 'this' deal (or pay)...I'd stick with ARIA.
(on the other hand, they all look the same when you're asleep)
I stayed at the Rio last month, and it's obvious they aren't putting any money into it. The rooms are clean, but have not been updated in years.

As for if to stay there or not, I would not recommend it at this time. They are catering to a young local crowd, at the moment, and we didn't feel safe. The weekend culminated with a gang shooting in the parking lot.

They did close the Crown Nightclub after that, but I will not stay there again until they figure out what demographic they are aiming for.

I haven't stayed at the Aria, but I know it will be nicer.

Don't count on getting that suite again. I'm 7* and got a standard room.

Enjoy your stay.
I know Gregrio knows that place inside & out.
But, what mnroyal said.........doesn't make me feel warm & fuzzy. Feeling safe, is a MUST.
Don't think I want to stay there solo right now. I don't need that crap.
Changing to other CE prop for Fri nite, and will do vp tourney at Rio during the day, but thats it.
Hope things get better there, sooner than later.......

Well, they've always catered to the younger, local crowd for years....call it Crown Theater,
Club RIO, whatever...in that part of the casino...at night...it's always been a different world.
Yeah, there was gang related shooting in the upper back parking lot a month ago...happens
in lots of casino parking lots. You regularly read stories about increasing gang problems in
Vegas in the RJ and LV SUN almost every day (I read 'em both every day...)
My last trip I noticed not only RIO Security people all over the place, but METRO also and to
be honest, I can't ever remember hearing of an issue inside the joint...it's always outside.
I feel less safe on the Strip at night but it's not an issue for me INSIDE the RIO.
Pffft. I stayed at the Rio last August on a 4 night comp. All was great. You can do a search and read my full trip report; but in a nutshell, I thought it was quite safe. Walked from Rio to GC to Palms two or three different times. Used the shuttle to the strip constantly. No problems. They gave me a standard suite/room in the Impanea Tower - which is supposedly the better one. Clean. comfortable. No complaints. I definitely would not turn down another comp offer from them; however, I'm a low roller and have never stayed at the Aria, so if you've also got a comp there, you're probably better off as it's location alone beats the Rio.
