Room Quality

I am planning a trip to Vegas in Oct 2014 and am looking at different hotels. I like the Harrah's location but am concerned about the negative things I have heard in the past about room quality. However, it has been 5 years since I have been to Vegas so I am not sure about the current status of the rooms at Harrah's. Anyone stayed there recently? What tower should I stay in? My gambling will not be very large so I won't be getting any offers or comps.
We have been staying at Harrah's for several years. Very clean and comfortable always. We enjoy the Madri Gras Tower versus Carnival Tower, but both are very nice. You will enjoy Harrah's.
IMO the rooms aren't that great compared to other hotels on the strip. They are very basic and small, but if the room isn't that important to you it should be fine for your needs.

I'm would rank Harrahs just a step above the Quad. I think Ballys would be a better choice if prices were the same, but will let others weigh in since I've never had a room at Ballys (Based on what I've read, I think they're bigger than Harrahs).
As with most things, you get what you pay for. I have never stayed at Harrah's, but friends stay there every trip to Vegas, which is generally twice per year.

We tend to stay at Paris or Bally's (the remodeled rooms in the Jubilee Tower are really nice) because we enjoy going to the Paris Diamond Lounge.

Of course ritzier places with nicer rooms will cost more. Stick to your budget. We would rather stay at Bally's than Bellagio to preserve4 our budget. Simple as that.

Bally's rooms are very nice, and pretty large. I think they are probably the best bargain in that area of the strip (barring comped rooms, of course.)
Bally's rooms are much larger than Harrahs I think. We have been staying at Bally's to get further away from the construction at The Linq. We found that we really like being closer to center strip. We like being closer to Paris and Planet Hollywood for food choices.
I agree that Bally's rooms are larger but disagree about overall quality, because I think Harrah's rooms are nicer, but smaller. I think bell service and desk service are better at Harrah's, as well. In addition the current construction has affected Bally's a bit more, IMO.

I actually like Rio quite a bit. Rooms, buffet, restaurants. But unfortunately I seem to be jinxed at the tables.
This last weekend I had a room at the Rio which I booked for friends. I did check it out and it was very nice. Ballys rooms are bigger than Paris or Harrahs, but the VP there sucks.
I did play at the Rio on two of the four days and put in a 1,000 tier each day (which got me the bonus 1,000 each day). Actually came out $200 ahead for the 2 days and most of the play was on FP DDB (less than 10 machines to choose from).
There Diamond Lounge dosen't open until 4:00 and all my play was in the morning, so never got to visit it.
Had Jr suite in Jubilee tower Ballys this past weekend. It's large, has a wet bar with a small fridge, a large sitting area with 2 couchs, an desk area that would be good for a computer and work area, a small table with 2 stuffed chair, and an empty small room area which might be for a double bed or rollaway. There's also a nice sized walk in shower, but no tub in the bathroom. There's a second fridge close to the sitting area.

We were supposed to have a smaller room, but after trying the card key a few times I went back to Diamond check-in and was given an upgraded to the Jr. Suite for my inconvenience. I was told the door lock batteries get low very quickly and since it kept flashing a "yellow" light that was probably what was happening. So it worked out well for me.
Our best room at Harrahs, other than when we had a problem and were moved to an Executive Suite (wow, was that nice), was in a Mardi Gras tower room overlooking the Strip. You could get that just for the asking, probably. Not the Ritz but nice enough.
