taking room charges out of reward credits: any ideas?

I dont read all my email from any of the businesses sending me mail. I may have read about a change in total rewards standard operating procedures, and misfiled it in my brain. However, I am appealing for help with a not-new problem. Is there any way to have a desk clerk charge a room to comp (TR) dollars. I have read in this msg board that hosts are loathe to comp until you have used up TR comps. I wont be surprised if i hear this problem is unique to my take-the-royal-money-and-run method, or specific to some sites. DO YOU have problems getting lodging bills paid for by TR dollars? Thanks, and Good luck!
My rooms are already comped when I stay at a CET hotel. However I do tend to charge things to my room, such as meals and cocktails as well as room service a couple of times per trip.
When I check out I (either thru the TV or at the desk) I just check to have my TR credits applied to my room charges. No muss no fuss. I always leave a cc# on file at check in to cover whatever my comps don't.
The night before checkout I stop at the registration desk and clear any room charges by transferring Rewards credits to cover the cost. Then in the morning checkout is a breeze on the TV.

Lately the check-in person has asked if I want to pay my bill with TR credits. If you say yes, it is automatic.

Dave, good point. I just prefer to check out using the TV system and avoid a call or stop downstairs on getaway day.

Edited: I just noticed you said "check-in" person. I haven't come across that.
It is my understanding that if you use your TR points at the origin of the sale you do not have to pay the sales tax but if you charge to your room and then pay you do. I am not sure on this . They do now usually ask if you want your TR credits applied to your bill . I always say no.
i originally confronted this problem when I was hoping to dodge the taxes by paying points, not dollars. I hesitated, then gave up when told:
'no, your points will go to taxes". I can see how that would make hotels NOT want to use credits, as they arent cash and taxes...are cash. But sunday I stayed @harrahs in tunica & the front desk supervisor wouldn't pay 'em in points but assured me it would work at check out. Monday, the night clerk plainly didn't know what that was about, but called to have my stay comped instead, so I'm supposed to be happy. The reason I'm hoping for genuine LVA wisdom is the 600 rewarddollars from the race is almost all going to rooms, I predict, or I spend a lotta money getting around for less bang that I wanted. anyway.....thanks for the tips. And, Good Luck!
When we dined at several venues in Vegas recently, they brought the check and then we said we wanted to use reward credits. When the bill was returned for a signature, tax was removed every time. Tips we always pay in cash as credits don't cover them.

We use our TR points for both dining and rooms. For dining we use the TR when the bill comes. The tax is removed from the bill and the points just have to cover the food cost.

We get basic rooms comped but occasionally we like to splurge and get a suite. We'll use our TR points to cover the cost of the suite. I always ask if we can redeem our TR points up front to cover the room in the hopes of avoiding having to pay for the tax. The answer has always been no. We have to redeem our TR points at check-out and the final amount is the cost of the room AND tax.

It doesn't seem like there is a way to use TR points for the room and avoid the tax.

Use your TR credits at the restaurants, etc. because the tax is subtracted. Thus you will save more by not putting it on your room charge.
