Total Rewards Visa and Platinum Tier

i got the card to gain platinum status for the next year. I then cancelled the card and expected to reapply to gain platinum for this year. I was just in vegas and got a new card, the card is for platinum status thru march 2016. go figure. I did not spend anywhere near the 5,000 to continue status. so far have gotten two years of platinum. Has this happened to anyone else?

Similar story here. Specifically, we both got the cards December of 2013 because we were taking our daughter and our adult g-daughter to LV in Jan of 2014. The platinum status was good until March 2015. That meant--then, not now-- that we would save the resort fee on two rooms for three nights at PHo--$120. In addition each of us got a 24hr buffet pass for the card holder and one guest--thus all four of us at free for 24hrs. It was a real perk for us on that trip. After that, we just used the card occasionally to keep the points active, and that is still what we do, and it is very handy because our nearby Harrahs was sold.

Ok, so I expect to be kicked back to Gold this month. So I sign in and find that it says Platinum until March 2016! Don't get it. Platinum doesn't mean much anymore, but happy to use it for the occasional line jump, etc.

Planning a trip to Vegas in a couple week so logged on a Total Rewards and it now says Platinum Status through March 2016. Haven't receive any notification in the mail and the only time I use the card is when I'm in Vegas, which hasn't been for a few months. And with everything I get comped (you have to love MyVegas, but that's a different company), I hardly use it. Maybe a couple hundred bucks. Anyway, it's a nice perk when I visit Total Rewards properties.
