TR Credit Card Platinum Status past 2016

Did everyone with the TR credit card receive the email requiring you to spend $5000 in order to maintain platinum next year? In my opinion, it's not worth it. It's a crappy card to begin with and I have better rewards with other cards. Chances are, I'll cancel the card as the only reason I keep it now is for Platinum status.
My husband and I got the email too. We both have the card and will likely keep it. I should meet the $5000 amount because of a few big purchases we have made and another two coming up. We don't roll over a balance so the interest rate doesn't really impact us. We also figured as long as one of us would have Platinum it would be nice, but no need for both of us to have it.
Maybe I'm misreading this. Cannot a person obtain/maintain Platinum simply by their own casino play, credit card or no credit card?

Or was there a 'bait and switch' at the initial issuance of this credit card, that now you must spend $5000 and you didn't have to the first year to be Platinum?

Just curious. I don't have the card.
I think they changed the rules. It use to be just apply and get approved and you get Platinum. The new "rules" say charge 5,000 Platinum *(in a year) but the best deal is charge 10,000 and you get Diamond. I finally applied yesterday. For me this is a great deal. No more resort fees plus access to Diamond lounge, expedited check in and valet, 100 Diamond dinner. I am not sure but I think you also get 2 free show tickets a month.
savings if I go 2x a year
resort fees at $28 for 6 nights $108
Celebration dinner $100.
Show 2 tickets 2x a year $250.
So at least $450 savings for me spending 10,000.
Yes you can gamble and earn Platinum or Diamond but since I am a low roller I have barely made Platinum the last 5 years so Diamond to me is a big perk. I will revisit upon renewal next year and reevaluate.

Did they change it again to say Diamond level for $10000? I thought what I got in email said you became a Vegas "VIP" but never said Diamond. I better reread that. Maybe I should stop using my other cards if that is the case.

I did notice that the card doesn't give you the Buffet of Buffets any longer when you sign up. It just said a buffet for two.
I just pulled the email up again. Here is what it says for if you reach $10,000:

"GO VIP"

When you spend $10,000 in a calendar year, you’ll receive unlimited VIP access in Las Vegas for the following calendar year, which includes:

• VIP Line access at participating buffets and restaurants
• VIP Line access for hotel check-in
• VIP Line access for taxis
• Preferred entry into participating nightclubs and entertainment venues
• Access at all resort pools
Perhaps I am reading this wrong this is what I have. I am going to try it no resort fees is what I am interested in. It doesn't specifically state that but I don't now how they would let you use Diamond line without a Diamond card. If it doesn't work out for me after a year I will just drop it. Anyone else know anything about this? It also doesn't state what a calendar year is that from the time you apply or Jan 1st to Dec 31st?

RECEIVE 10,000 REWARD CREDITS® AS A BONUS2

Use your Total Rewards Visa Card outside of a Total Rewards destination3 within the first 90 days of being approved to earn 10,000 Reward Credits after spending a total of $7502.

I read this very carefully--one does NOT get access to the Diamond Lounge with this card. If it did, I might have to abandon my Southwest Visa and use the TR card exclusively.
Sincce I generally earn Platinum status anyway, I just keep the card for any charges (restaurants, gift shops, etc.) I make when I am in Vegas. When I first got the card, Platinum had no dollar amount. Plus, there was a "buffet of Buffet" voucher for two people.
If one does not live near a CET property or does not have gambling plans for six months or more, then using the card would allow one to preserve one's TR credits.

Teach8 again I don't know how they would allow Access to Diamond valet etc, etc and not Diamond lounge? You just show your card. How would they differentiate? Unless they are going to add another tiered card. I don't know so I am waiting. Everyone thought when the Platinum level Visa came out that it couldn't be true. So until I get further info from someone in the know I will try it and see. Again I am Platinum but hate the resort fees that use to be if you were Platinum you didn't have to pay.

Perhaps they are offering different amenities according to your status with them? I notice I don't see the Diamond info until I sign into Total Rewards. CET is a strange and fickle beast LOL. Hoping for the best.
Everything I have read on the website and on my card statement don't call it "Diamond Access" they call it VIP Access. From everything I read it sounds like a separate type of card or pass. But if you would spend $10,000 thru a credit card anyway I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

PS - Also, Everywhere I have read doesn't state anything about not having to pay resort fees with this VIP Access. Otherwise, we would have to try harder to get to that level for sure!
