We arrived here at 4:16 pm today, exhausted from a 5 hour drive from Phoenix. I am here for the HFMA conference at the Venetian, and my family tagged along to keep me company.
We walked in on a Sunday afternoon expecting some sort of wait to check-in to our hotel. What we got was bedlam. Two solid rooms of what was an allegedly called a "lobby" crammed with people waiting for their designated checker inner (not a real term) and then the room full of people waiting. Well over 250 people line deep, it was hot, miserable, and made me feel like crying.
As I sat there deliberating, all I could think was...this is it. I am done with the damn strip. I will not stay at any of these hotels again, this is sheer madness.
About five minutes had passed, and as the line shifted forward....my eye caught a sign that said "Express Check-In $40." It was like a mirage (next to the Mirage, as it were). In that sea of people all I could think was that I wanted in my room, I wanted out of that sweat box lobby, and simultaneously, I knew instinctively that I was an idiot for believing that Treasure Island had taken the high road by not charging for parking.
This situation is very controllable on TI's part. They have 7 people helping over 200 and 5 people helping 5 people in the Express line.
They annoy and aggravate you into giving them an extra $40. I find it astonishing that people don't talk about this more, this level of intentional bad service is insulting and abhorrent.
Spend your money elsewhere. Unless of course you like getting ripped off even more than what you'd normally expect from a city that enjoys sucking the $20's out of your wallet.
I love Las Vegas. I guess this has just been a long day.
