Visit to Laughlin?

Harrahs has offered myself and wife a 3 night 4 day flight to Laughlin for a total of $99. Not familiar at all with Laughlin, as a matter of fact I always thought it was north of Vegas not south.
Just wonder if we will get bored staying for 3 nights. Typically go to Vegas for 7 days but spend part of the time DT and part on the Strip.
Any ideas what to think. Trip is end of January, we both golf but not so sure on the weather that time of year.
Is the gambling decent? Which casino's are the nicest. Any advice would be much appreciated.

thanks

Well, I'll give it a try. First, I have no idea if any particular person would "like" it or not. I have long since given up assuming that what I like, others will like, or vice versa. But I can describe our experience.

We have been 9 or 10 times, always on a Harrah's or Riverside junket. Both casinos have the system down well and will bus you to and from the hotel, take care of your luggage, give you a check-in packet, etc. We have never had a problem with the organization of the junkets.

Now, for full disclosure, we love to go there and tend to go once or twice a year, almost always on a four-night stay rather than the three nighters. We are older, retired, and DT-Boulder Hy people in LV. If one loves the Strip--the plush hotels, the glitz, the glamor, the crowds, the loud music, the "action", celebrity restaurants--then, I'm going to predict you will hate Laughlin. It is full of oldsters, runs at a very slow pace, and is about as laid-back at a casino town gets. Nine casinos, all older establishments, full of older people. Decent to good VP if you hunt. All are within walking distance of each other, although you will be a Harrah's and it is a good 15min walk up and/or down the bluff. We walk it all the time when we stay there, but if you have any mobility issues, you can take the water taxi. If you decide to walk, post here and I can give you a short cut that will save you a bit of climbing up the bluff.

Three bingo halls--what does that tell you!--cheap food generally. Nice River Walk that takes you into the back doors of seven of the casinos. We like to sit down once in a while to just watch the river run when they open the dam.

Depending on your arrival and departure times, three nights may not give you that much time in town actually. At the cost of a c-note, it's probably worth a go--not much to lose if you don't like it.

Personally, I prefer to play VP, and Aquarius is my favorite casino, but preferences are individual. We dislike the River Lodge. The Pioneer is right out of 1965 LV with coin-droppers and a classic feel to it--or it's a dump, depending on your mind set. It has terrible VP so I avoid it.

Let us know if you go and your impression if you do go. Good luck!

Sometimes the length of the trip depends on your flight times. If you fly out of your city late afternoon or evening, and fly back home early morning, depending on where you live there might not be that much time to get bored. Three nights is about right, usually.

Harrah's Laughlin has a good Diamond Lounge, if you are Diamond or 7 Stars, with decent food and drinks, and you can sit out on a patio and watch the river, the jet skiers, etc.

The water taxi is nice just to ride up and down past the casinos, though they charge each way (I forget how much, but way less than you might lose in the casino for that period of time, about 45 minutes, more or less.)

Thank you both for your information. I need to call the number too see when flight times are.
We are diamond so if we do go we will visit the DL lounge.

There's a very active Facebook group, Laughlin Buzz, that has tons of info on the area. Weather end of January is similar to Phoenix. One can golf in the Laughlin Bullhead City area plus there are other outdoor activities. You'll need to rent a car if you want to explore outside the casinos.

I've met people who arrive by charters and don't step outside for 3 or 4 days.
My first trip to Laughlin I thought that one day was more than enough. However, we not go at least three times a year. As a Diamond make sure and stop at Total Rewards for a coupon for the water taxi. You can either get it comped using points or 1/2 price using no points, your choice and you can get coupons daily. The poker room is easy going with tournaments and mainly locals. I'm not a fan of the steakhouse at Harrahs as ate there once and service, food and pricing was bad. Beach Café is ok and there is a coupon in the American Casino guide for it and for the buffet. Buffet is stardard buffet although they have a separate line and seating for Diamond. Room service is good. Cocktail waitresses are good and will remember you. Diamond lounge had started charging points if you visited more than once a day. There is an outlet mall in Laughlin in case you want to shop but in my opinion that is a wasted trip as a lot of the stores have moved out. The Golden Nugget was running a promotion that if you got a players card from them that they would upgrade you one level above any competitors card. A walking/water taxi tour of all the casinos will take one day but it is interesting.
