1st time without car rental

Trip date: July 17-22 Solo trip.

After reading many fourms on bus transportation decided to give it a whirl.

After collecting my luggage headed to Ground Zero to catch the Westcliff airport express to downtown. Purchased a single ride $2.00 ticket. Bus comes every hour at least through the main part of the day. Was in downtown in about 25 minutes. Short 2 block walk to Golden Nugget.

Later on the 17th went to Walgreens and purchased a 5 day all access pass for $10. senior fare. Although I didn't have an RTC senior card the clerk sold me the pass by showing my driver license. Later that day rode the downtown express to Belliago, crossed the street and hopped on the Duece to Flamingo. Rode the Duece back downtown that evening. Should have walk to a downtown express stop for the return trip. Duece is pretty crowded and makes too many stops. Rode the downtown express again to the Belliago stop to go to a show on July18th. Took the express back to downtown.

Wednesday July 20th took the Westcliff Express to Suncoast for an overnight stay. Got there in about 25 minutes. Next morning got the same bus to back downtown. Friday caught the Westclliff express to the airport for return flight. Again about 25 minutes.

Never had to walk more than 2 blocks for bus stops Both express buses were not crowded. Total transportation expenses $12.00

Be sure and validate your pass before your fist ride. I didn't do this and the Ticket cop made me get off the bus and validate it.

I would certainly use the bus again expecially if going solo.

Thanks for the report, jjm97retired. I'm with you, for solo trips RTC Transit can be pretty great.

I don't recall anyone posting previously about an encounter with a transit cop. Thanks for the reminder about validating tickets BEFORE hopping aboard SDX and similar proof of payment lines.

Yes, thanks for that report! When I'm in LV alone, if I want to get to the Strip, I definitely make use of the CAT (or RTC or whatever they are called) buses.

For years I did the taxi/shuttle/walk/monorail Routine.
But once I started renting cars (or driving my own) got spoiled.
Now, I search for the best rental car deals, and dont give up until I do.

Good luck on your new journeys. Sounds like you'll do fine.

Personally I will be staying with the rental car and have since 1994. So with a little checking there are are a lot of good options available for those who do not.
