5 Day Rental Premium

Will be in town for 5 days the end of Oct. Always rent but 5 day rentals are about $215 while a 4 day midsize at Dollar was $111 so I booked it. Seems all companies group 5-7 day rentals as weekly rates so 5 days cost as much as 7 days. Also tried to book a separate one day reservation but the rate was ridiculous too.

So, I decided to go without a car on arrival since I have an evening arrival and did not really need the car that night anyway. Consequently, I need to get to/from the Orleans via either cab or shuttle. I've never taken a shuttle before. They are cheap but are they worth the hassle? I'm thinking maybe I will try a shuttle on arrival but take a cab to the rental facility the next day since I can schedule anytime.

Are there any better options out there? Thanks in advance.
Why not just rent from Alamo--join their Insider Club and keep checking back daily to see if rate drops. Most days Insider has a $40 off coupon and works good. Problem I see if you wait until the second day you are at their mercy as far as pricing. Costs nothing to cancel and rebook if rate drops.
The shuttles work great, I wouldn't hesitate to take one to Orleans. Cheap and efficient, and think of the 2-3 stops you'll likely make before arriving as a tour.

There's a Budget Car Rental across the street from the Orleans. I've had excellent success getting great rates from Budget when renting at one of their off-airport locations and returning the car at LAS. If you're a member of Costco, you can find good Budget discounts at Costco Travel.
Thanks for the Costco suggestion. Have been a member for years but never thought about using them for travel.

I always check on a weekly basis for better deals. In August I took a last minute trip and got an intermediate from Payless at the airport for under $90 for four days with a little over a week notice. The computer pricing programs can jump all over the place.

I managed the commercial pricing group for my company for a number of years. Most pricing computer models generate pricing suggestions for all locations based on inventory, sales projections, competitive position, etc that go into effect unless manually overridden. Sometimes the input data gets screwed up resulting in extreme pricing. The most common problems I saw was over or understating inventory. Grossly overstating inventory can result in some unbelievable deals to the customer. Check early morning, most capture the competitive data overnight as well as inventory changes resulting from in and out transfers. Occasionally, you can find the mistake before the pricers do.
