Airlines Change or Cancel Your Vegas Flight?

With the federal government's current failure to pay air traffic controllers money for the work they do (amazing), airlines are now being required to cut 10% or so of their normal schedules at Harry Reid.

As someone who travels through LAS frequently, I'm curious to hear from LVAers who've experienced this first-hand. Was your trip impacted? How so?

I wasn't planning to go to Vegas over Thanksgiving, as being in that city during a holiday weekend is the height of folly (and expense), but I did research airfares for a friend who has what he calls a "deal"-- only $349 a night plus taxes and resort fees--for Turkey Weekend at the Golden Commode. He really really wants to be there to watch and bet all the foobaw games..

So I've been checking airfares (he's coming from Seattle). The prices in late October were insane. The cheapest round trip ticket was a redeye both ways at $1,298. And now, there's no availability at any price.

He had another question as well: what would happen if he made a reservation and it became impossible for him to get there. I told him that the Commode would likely follow its stated policy of charging him for the first night. So, he'd be out $400. And he has no assurance that any flight he manages to book will actually depart. Trump may greatly hinder air traffic that weekend.

So I found him a local hotel/casino in Washington that has a huge sports book, is an hour's drive away, and happily accepts guests for Th Fri Sat for $369 TOTAL, taxes and fees included. One more Vegas visitor down the drain.

What there some thread that your comments were relevant to? IYour thoughts might be welcome there, maybe move it?

As for this thread, I'm looking for any experiences any LVAers may have had with the sudden cuts to aircraft heading to or from LAS due to the federal government's failure to pay the salaries of air traffic controllers.

Thanks.

I deeply and humbly apologize for my post not being exactly what you were looking for. I should definitely have obtained your expressed permission first, but dagnabbit, I didn't know how to do that.

The relevance to your topic, or so I thought, anyway, and I humbly prostrate myself in apology for such an error, was that his experiences in trying to book a flight postdated the beginning of the current shutdown and were definitely affected by the coming flight cancellations. It used to be easy as pie to get flights from Seattle to Vegas. And he gave it plenty of lead time.

My efforts to find him a cheaper flight, with still three weeks to go, were futile because of the Trumpdown to which you refer.

I'm really so very very sorry. Can I buy you a new red baseball cap?

We are flying in Sunday and leaving Thursday. We're also trying to get a feeling for the situation in Vegas, both coming and going. TSA  how much time should we plan on and any other information.

To all of those concerned and /or affected to the current airline crisis, be sure to send a "thank you" to the Democrat party and Chuck Schumer.

When the completely Republican-controlled government fails to do something, be sure to blame the Democrats.

When the completely Republican-controlled government

If that was really the case there would be no shutdown

They could end the shutdown tomorrow. You know this, so don't bother claiming otherwise. I'm not going to talk politics in this thread any more--not with rabid MAGA loyalists, anyway. Miller should t have injected his MAGA nonsense into the discussion, and I shouldn't have bothered to point out the obvious. My bad for responding to him.
