The Forbes article was a few days ago, and referenced smaller AIRLINES, not necessarily smaller markets. Their point was that larger airlines have and will have more flexibility to reshuffle their fleets. They mentioned that flight cancellations can have a cascading effect, as such episodes mean not only that a flight doesn't take place, but also that that aircraft won't be where it's supposed to be for its next flight. This, they said, has the most profound effect on airlines that fly primarily out of a single "hub."
Of course, also, if you're flying out of a smaller market, overall cancellations may remove a substantial portion or even all of your options, whereas you could still probably get to Vegas from, say, NYC or Atlanta, albeit at a drastically increased fare.
