Airport security/Surgical pins

"Should take only a few seconds to get wanded if it does set the detector off, though, and the surgical scars are a give-away, too. "

If only that were so. I have two hip replacements and prior to this new "expanded" search
that is what they would do. Lightly pat you down, run the wand and off you went. Did this
for many years and many trips.

Not anymore. They do the offensive pat down and never even wand you. I have asked why
when I fail the metal detector they are not wanding me and have not received a satisfactory
answer - haven't pushed it because the whole process is bad enough without raising anyone's ire.

I go out of my way to ensure I am in a line that has the scanner operational so I am not subjected
to the new pat down.
I had 13 screws and two plates in my lower left leg for 10 years and only had a problem once. I cleared the regular walk-thru metal detector, but for some reason they wanted to use the hand held wand on me. It beeped when they waved it over my leg...pulled down my sock and showed them the scars...was on my way. They use titantium most of the time, which is non-ferrous (no iron); so it shouldn't set off the metal detectors. My Dad has two artificial knees and an artificial hip and he hasn't had any problems at the airport. I wouldn't worry about it.

Glasses can affect your vision; especially when they have been emptied several times.........
