Alamo Car-HOLY COW WHY SO MUCH?

Going on Feb. 4 and retuning on the 9th. It is exactly 5 days. Not 1 hour over.

The cheapest was over $200!

Why so much? Never paid that much even for a weekly rental. That's with my Alamo insiders discount.

This price is for an Intermediate Car, nothing great.

Any suggestions to lower the cost would be appreciated.

My last several trips, when I needed the car for 5 days they charge me for a full week. So, now I make two reservations back to back, returning the car and picking up another one. Much cheaper.

I agree. I rent 10-15 times a year with Alamo and I NEVER book a one week rental. Always make 2 back to back bookings for a cheaper rate and use multiple coupons. Check back on the prices every week because they vary even this far out. Best code to use is with the Entertainment book with a coupon.

I booked 3 one week rentals with Alamo last year and they ended up from a low of $15 inclusive to $19 inclusive...of course I rebooked numerous times on all 3 trips. My goal is a $100 to $110 total.
Problem right now is all the coupons end 12/31/11 and I've already got 3 trips set up for 2012...I'll be busy when they finally open up.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I need to wait for the new coupons and need two make two reservations. That's why I love this site. It's all about sharing money savings info.

I started at $223 for a full size for seven days. I rebooked 5 or 6 times. It is now $139.00 Bob

I have a 10 day rental for December that started in the high $200's. I now have it down to $160 and change and hope to see it go lower as the date gets closer. Check the Costco site. I found a $40 off coupon for a week rental (it expires before your trip). I also found the Costco ID code produces a lower base rate than even the "insider" codes. I've used the Costco codes before and have never been asked for any form of membership ID. If you are an American Express Card holder the corp. discount is even greater.

We are going in December as well. What is the Costco code you used? Thanks.
