Alaska Air Miles

I visit in June Birthday celebration

I got tickets for flight with miles

Decided to extend visit few days

Alaska has no penalty for change

just difference in cost of money or

miles.

I booked first class for 17.5 thousand miles

today if I change for same flight 35. Thousand miles

one way I went to Europe for 25 thousand miles round trip

what's going on Of course I can go main cabin

Oh boy

Typically, the later you buy your tickets, the more points or cash it takes. Also, certain days of the week are more expensive because of higher demand.

And everything can change daily.

That's very typical, of any company offering points or miles or gabonzas as a "reward." Don't use them immediately, and you'll find that your goodie balance has magically shrunk to almost nothing. Frequent flier miles become frequent flier inches, and you find that it takes 59 million of them to fly from Chicago to Milwaukee.

That's because unused goodies like that are carried on a company's balance sheet as "contingent liabilities," and they can improve their bottom line and make their stockholders happy simply by devaluing those unused goodies.

Minimize the business you do with big corporations, and never trust them, not even for a second.

Thanks for thoughts I've been using miles for years

First Class never more then 15-17 thousand miles

each way I don't mind main cabin Yet kinda nice

on Birthday First class
Happy New Years All

Using miles for first class awards at the "saver" level are tough to come by on ALL airlines now.  Why?   It's called 'first class monetization' and Delta started it several years ago.

First class seats are now priced closer to coach so more people are paying $ to sit up front.   Fewer and fewer seats go to elites for upgrades since these same people are foolishly paying for something the airlines used to give them free.  To add insult to injury, the guest experience in first class these days is actually worse than before the Vid.   All airlines now have a significant % of new hire flight attendants that are more focused on hiding in the galley playing on their phones than actually serving customers.

Rule of thumb these days is do NOT redeem miles for domestic first class since the value proposition is usually always poor.

Alaska miles are still better than AA, UA or DL but they've been devalued due to joining oneworld.   Best to save them for partner redemptions international J class rather than domestic F.
