All Nudescopes at McCarran

A chatty TSA agent told us yesterday that in about a month McCarran will be all scanners, i.e. all "nudescopes." The old metal detectors will be gone. FWTW.
Good. Now all of those who felt they were being singled out or picked on will have to find something else to complain about since everyone will be subjected to the same form of necessary preboarding screening.
If they do switch to all scopes expect slower lines they take about 10x as long as walking thru the metal detectors. If someone messes up with something in the pocket is goes even slower. What are they going to do with kids who can' t raise their hands?
If there are any new machines coming to McCarran, they'll be Milimeter Wave machines, which don't produce a nude image. At all.

MW machines produce either this image, which says the passenger is clear to proceed:

or this generic, non-passenger-specific drawing informing TSA personnel where on the passenger's body to investigate further:

So if your objection to these devices is the TSA people will see you nude, it's time to update your thinking.

I don't know where you get that. In our experience the scanner is lightening fast, like 5 seconds in and out. Despite my nagging, husband always has something in his pocket. This time it was a tiny plastic toothpick, the type you get at the dentist. Still, the pat down was just a few seconds. The man just in front of me got stopped and they waved me on by him, didn't hold the ones behind him up.

Chilcoot is right...the image is an outline. Obviously somebody "behind the curtain" can see whatever lights up, but body parts aren't out there for all to see.

All the bags, laptops, etc. hold things up more than anything, IMO.

Had the occasion to go through the new scopes twice in the last month---at Honolulu and Quad City Regional airport---took 3 seconds, outline figure as shown. Guy behind me had a yellow square on his knee, they wanded it and off he went. If this is the price I pay for secure, commercial flights, I have no complaint.
I have No problem with that type of Outline..........vs. the old Graphic Detail, which showed genitals, etc.

(The Graphic detail, and singling out women, is what I, & many others, had a problem with,
and weve discussed that enough here.)

I've also gone thru the machine many times since it appears they HAVE changed to the Outline. Good!

I would NOT say its faster than the metal detectors. The backup can happen quickly, at those machines.

But, we can stop calling them Nudie-scopes, if TSA STAYS with THAT image.
I really do not care what type of machines they use as long as it makes travel safer. It will never be 100% but I want it as close to that as possible. Way too many crazies out there not to want to be a safe as possible.
I'm glad to see that many people are coming around to TSA's progress on this issue. I think TSA listened and implemented positive changes. That's how things should work.
I went through one of those machines at McCarran last week, and one at O'Hare today. No problem. Quick and easy.
