Allegiant air / Austin TX

Starting Oct. 30 2013, Allegiant Air will have flights to & from Las Vegas. Thank you Allegiant Air for a cheaper way to Vegas.
When I saw this news a few weeks back I had tears of joy. I'd be on that inaugural flight if it weren't Halloween!! (dang parenting duties!) Only hoping there is enough demand here to add more! WOO HOO!!! I hope to be a regular.
Allegiant fliers: what can you tell me about flying Allegiant? They're starting Oakland-Reno service soon with cheap introductory fares but I'm wary about add ons like Spirit does.

I have never flown Spirit but they are probably similar. Check there web site and compare there ad-on prices. I live in San Antonio TX, and I have flown Allegiant air out of Larado TX, a few times and yes they do have a lot of add on charges, but after comparing the bottom line ,(total dollar), most of the time Allegiant comes out at least a hundred dollars cheaper, enough to cover my car rental.

I've only flown Allegiant on the Harrah's trips to Laughlin, and that's been a few years. Planes were pretty basic, very cramped, but the last one we took was a smidge nicer than the previous ones. They were two seaters across (which can be good!). But nothing really wrong with it, especially if significantly cheaper and non-stop!
I have researched and researched this Allegiant flight ever since I got wind that it was coming. Adds on out the wazoo, but, like fritoman said, bottom dollar they are still coming in $100 less than Southwest on 9 out of 10 dates I've checked. The $60 out on Friday and $80 back Sunday ended up being about $250 with one bag checked and prepaid when the reservation is made. A far cry from what appears to be a smokin' $140 trip but still $250 DIRECT out on a Friday back Sunday...couldn't be happier.

What I will be watching closely is how near the departure date these rates remain available. I would like to book a flight within a week at these prices not four weeks out. When I find myself with an unexpected weekend to myself (thanks to being a hunter's widow) I want to get out of here and for $250 I wouldn't hesitate.
Cheap up front but as you get closer to flight time the prices are much higher. You also pay crazy fees and give up 3" of leg room. Flying from the NE.... $100 r/t extra is a bargain for 32" pitch, 1 free bag, N/s flight, TV and free soft drinks and snacks. Actually make that $200
