Bringing a bag on an Allegiant Air flight and stowing it in the overhead soon will cost $35.

The airline, which offers flights out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, will add the charge for flights booked starting on Wednesday, according to CBS Moneywatch. Smaller items that fit under the seat will be free. . . . . .

The article doesn't say if it's all flights or flights only out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
I believe it's for all flights. I heard it on the local news in LV today.
Insanity.
Do they also charge for checked bags?

On the other side of that coin, and I'll take the flame throwing, but as I get older I'm getting sick and tired of standing in the aisle waiting for people to load/unload their gigantic bags in the overheads which don't fit without push push push...late leaving, etc. Nobody, including the airline personnel, observes their so-called size rule. Can't some of you check your boulder size bags?
Thanks for posting. This ticks me off. We already have our flights booked for our August trip. When we booked there was no charge for carryons so we prepaid our checked bags, now we're going to have to pay for carryons as well. I've already contacted them about this, but I'm pretty pissed. They have already canceled and rescheduled our flights just last we as a part of their new scheduling.....no longer flying on Saturdays from our airport......this is our first time using Allegiant....already unimpressed.

Sounds like Spirit. Glad we don't need to use them anymore when they pulled out of Rochester MN a year or so ago.
I believe I read that the charge starts with flights booked beginning yesterday. So it shouldn't affect your flights, rkmassa.
Candy: gotta agree with ya on that - it's so annoying to see these folks haul their gargantuan loads. Hello, if you can't lift it up to the bin, check it!

Yep, you're correct Sue.....probably should have read a little closer.

We travel Allegiant all the time for our trips to Las Vegas and I say good for Allegiant - it is about time. We always pay the extra to check a bag ( we have 1 suitcase between the 2 of us).

I agree with Candy - people seemed to take advantage of the carry on policy when it was free . On more than 1 occasion have seen a person who can barely walk themselves down the aisle pulling a huge "carry on" and then relying on the goodwill of other passengers or flight attendants to jam this thing in the overhead. These "carry ons" still add to the final weight and fuel usage of the aircraft.

I just wish Allegiant would let the people who have no stuff in the overhead depart the plane first as so many times the aisles are "clogged" with people trying to get their stuff out of the overhead - but as my husband says that isn't going to happen as then you would have people with no luggage in the overhead trying to climb over others still in their seats (lol)
We have already booked our August trip, will we now have to pay for our 2 carryons when we arrive at the airport as there was no charge when I booked the trip? If I have to pay extra I might as well take one large luggage item for wife and I and no carry on's except for a small luggage item placed under the seat with medicine etc.?
