I expect you're being honest here.
That, to you, the minor inconvenience of walking from one modern airport terminal to another outweighs the time, effort, cost, and peril of an 8,000 mile road trip.
Because what could go wrong on a drive like that?
Dan, I'm sure you're aware that taking an airline flight involves many, many more steps than just walking from one terminal to another. Map it out in your mind: you pack your bags and load them in your car. Now, you either drive to your destination (one step, however long it takes) or drive to the airport, find parking, take a shuttle to the terminal, stand in line to check your bags and get a boarding pass, walk to the gate, wait for your flight, stand in line to board, fly to your destination (hopefully, no plane changes), disembark, wait for your bags to arrive, schlep the bags to the car rental area, rent a car, schlep your bags to that car, load up, and head for your hotel.
Guess what! I drove, and I got there an hour ago--and I didn't have to rent a car when I got there!
