Avoid Alamo at McCarren

We live here. My son flew in from NJ and rented from Alamo at the airport. In six days he had 2 cars with bad transmissions i.e. they cut out on him while he was driving. He limped the first one back to Alamo. The second one was undrivable. When he called Alamo they said they would send a wrecker and he should come back with the driver so he could get to the airport (this was 8:45 AM His flight was for 3:50 PM). In my opinion a decent company would have provided a cab at a reasonable hour for his flight since none of this was his fault. But the worst part is they told him the best they could due to compensate him was $100 off his bill. There shouldn't have even been a bill for 2 lousy cars that put him and us in danger. They obviously don't check out their cars adequately

I'd love to scream at Alamo but he's an adult and I have to let him I have to let him handle it. Fortunately or unfortunately he got his niceness gene from Dad. We'll see how that works out. At least I can let all of you know how undependable Alamo cars are
that seems very unusual to have 2 cars break down on him. I hope he had better luck at the casinos. he should not have had to pay anything.
Bummer. So sorry this happened.

Your son is right to take the $100 and move on, assuming he got some use out of the cars during those six days. Not worth the aggravation.

Car rental companies are too insulated from the customer side to care about someone being inconvenienced (not that he wasn't MAJORLY inconvenienced...they just don't care).

BTW, this is why it is very risky to buy a used car which spent its former life as a rental (all companies). They get rode hard and put away wet.
it sounds like "deferred maintenance" such as many of the Vegas resorts have been known to do.

So sorry to hear that happened. We rent from Alamo about 90% of the time and have never had a problem with their cars so far. The only one we had a problem with was Hertz and it wasn't a mechanical issue, they gave us a car that looked like it had been wrecked.
Wow, I have rented from Alamo for over 10 years and never have had a problem with them. Sounds like someone there dropped the ball. Hopefully they will pay more attention to their maintenance of the cars in the future.

I think he should request reimbursement for his rental just for the the amount of time he took away from his trip. Forget the local branch go up the chain to complain.
I've never had problems with cars from Alamo.
