Budget Can't Be Making Any Money on This

In a couple weeks, I'll rent a compact from Budget at McCarran for one day, returning it downtown. Here are the expected charges:

For the life of me, I can't see how Budget can afford to provide me with a clean, late-model car with unlimited mileage for a day, and rent and staff pickup and return booths at both the airport and downtown for $10.87. Incredible!

I have a car from Advantage p/u at airport 4/7 return to Mss next day 4/8 for $18.58. Booked it couple weeks ago.

My rental last fall was $80 all in for a mid-size for five days with Advantage. As I recall, half was taxes and fees, so their rate amounted to $8 per day.

In February this year I paid Dollar $6.00 a day plus fees. Couldn't believe it. My trip booked for this Christmas is over $21.00 per day.

Car rates have been all over the place for me the last few years but typically by the time I get to town the rates are rock bottom. This past Christmas I had to cancel a trip but I had a rate, after a coupon and discount code that had me in a full sized car for 2 weeks for $104 - yes, $52 per week. I question too how they can male any money at those prices.

The greatest price ever was a number of years ago when Dollar had a promo code that was taking $15 per day off the rental price and at the time their rates were already really low. Many members right here on these boards not only got cheap cars, but ended up with credits by the end of their trips. The odd thing about that old code was it worked for many many months before Dollar figured out they were paying people to drive their cars around.

Anyone else remember the old CTI code from back in the day??

Actually, lots of people rent from Budget. 2,700 locations in 120 countries, they say.

I usually go with Hertz, but occasionally I use Budget and have experienced nothing but good service and great rates when I do.

Beware of budget when I booked a car through Costco thet refused to honor the coupons. Very nasty to deal with. The boothling manager said they are a franchise and don't honor the quoted rates.

I still have the receipt from my old CTI rental for my $9.36 one week rental on my bulletin board. It makes me smile every time I see it.

Rented from Budget this time because I got a good rate & triple FF miles on SW.
Returned it yesterday. No issues. $61 total for 3 1/2 days.
