Bus pass question

Heading out to Vegas and staying at the Orleans from Feb 5-8. Taking a Bell Trans shuttle to the Orleans and a taxi back to the airport. I wanted to buy a 3 day bus pass online before my trip but I'm not sure which one to purchase. There's a residential pass and a premium pass available. I plan on traveling the strip, downtown and a few places a little off the strip. Also, what's the quickest bus route to take from the Orleans to Ellis Island? Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. TIA
renting a car would be the best way to go. more conveinant and less expensive

If you google "RTA Las Vegas" you will find a Trip Planner on the home page, upper left corner. You put in the start location and the end location and it will tell you which bus route(s) to take and an estimated time. I think you would take the 104 which runs along side of the Orleans and then catch the 202 east which runs Flamingo, if my memory and numbers are correct. We find the bus system rather easy to use and use it all of the time. Last Oct we took the bus from the airport to Sam's Town for the first time and it was the 108 or 109 north to Flamingo and the 202 east. Went smoothly. We used to rent a car, but we now find it less hassle to take the bus system---to each his/her own.
Why not take the Orleans shuttle to Bills and then walk to Ellis. Easy and short walk!

Executive shuttle is a couple bucks cheaper then Bell.
Buy the premium pass as it will allow you to ride the Deuce,Gold Line and the CAT.
Don't buy the three-day pass.

If you want to ride along the strip, you'll need the premium product. That's $5 a ride, or $7 for a 24 hour pass good for all RTC buses.

Since the three-day pass is $20, at best you'll save $1, and it'll expire exactly 72 hours after you first buy it. But if you buy 3 one-day passes, you can be more flexible. Maybe in the end you'll only buy 2 one-day passes. Note that the 24 hour pass is sold on the bus, while the three-day pass is not.

Because the three-day pass only saves $1 over buying 3 one-day passes, I'd buy the one-day passes on the bus, I find it a better overall value.

the poster said he is looking to buy one online so it does not expire within 72 hours of buying it, it expires within 72 hours from when you first use it.

also, whoever said to get from orleans to ellis island - take the shuttle to bills and walk has the best suggestion.

if you do not want to walk, still take the shuttle to bills and then the 202 over.

as far as premium vs residental - this is kind of tricky.

the residential passes (only $15 for a three day pass) are indeed good on the premium service lines IF you are a vegas local. but ive never had a bus driver ask me for id and ive ridden soooooooooooo many times.

furthermore, the strip express bus, there is nowhere to show your bus pass at all. its pretty much an honor system and from time to time, a transit worker will ask to see your pass. but not always.

so if you spend extra to ride the strip express bus (not the deuce), you are going to be so annoyed you bought the premium pass because you didnt even have to show it.

im not going to straight out suggest you buy the residential one because i dont want to be responsible for you being asked for id and being denied boarding the bus. but i always buy the residential one.

Correct, good point. 72 hours from validation, the time that the pass spends getting through the mail doesn't count against the traveler, I hope I didn't confuse many others.

It's not tricky at all. Pay the correct fare.

Just because a system may be easy to cheat doesn't make cheating acceptable. Something I'm not willing to debate.

A person who can afford a Las Vegas vacation can pay an extra $5 to support public transit and avoid being forever known as a petty criminal.
im never going to pay $21 for something i can get for $15.
