I was in Vegas over the Superbowl weekend and I need to rent a one way car rental to Palm Springs. About 6 weeks out, the prices were very reasonable if I choose to rent from Dollar at the Airport.
But, I never got around to pulling the trigger and when I was about to book, about 3 weeks prior to Superbowl, the prices were 10-15 times higher!!!! I also check with numerous car rental companies and the inflated prices were consistent throughout. I even checked off site locations and the prices were sky high.
On a whim, I decided to check Hertz's location at The RIO (where I was staying). The prices were similar to the original low price I found 6 weeks prior. Wow....... I was certainly surprised. In most cases, when you rent at the hotel, the prices are higher but not in this case.
In addition, it was extremely convenient picking up the car at the same hotel I was staying at and not having to pay for cab fare back to the airport to pick up the car.
