Car rental consolidated facility charge now $3.75/day?

This charge in the past was $3/day, which is ridiculous as it was, but now for a reservation I just made, I noticed that the fee is up 25% to $3.75 a day! Does anyone know when this fee change went into effect? I did a search and don't see any mention of this here before.
I believe it was changed when your and everybody's else back's were turned. Typical back room politics by lazy, worthless politicians. Stay tuned, more of the same to come.

The bonds that paid for construction of the facility need to be paid. Given the collapse in Vegas tourism, the costs of the bonds are being spread among fewer visitors. Therefore, each visitor needs to pay a little more, to make up for the amounts not paid by people who were expected to visit but didn't.

Inflation adds a little too.

Note that the consolidated car rental facility is government-owned and managed, and that the increase you describe was most certainly vetted after public notice in public meetings by the elected Clark County Board of County Commissioners, meetings that the public can attend.

Stuff costs money, and after a while the same stuff often costs more money. Just how it is.
I've got a reservation at Alamo. The basic rate is $112 for the week (not bad). The taxes and fees are an additional $64 (that's just crazy)! A few years ago, I had a car rental in Vegas where I actually paid more in taxes and fees than for the rental itself. I don't think it will be long before that is the standard.

I had a nice chuckle at this one:

""Note that the consolidated car rental facility is government-owned and managed, and that the increase you describe was most certainly vetted after public notice in public meetings by the elected Clark County Board of County Commissioners, meetings that the public can attend."

Yep, I am going to take a day off from work, travel 1000 miles, and pay $300 in airfare to raise my objection and better yet, to some board of bureaucrats that I have no say in electing, in the hopes that they are going to think twice about raising a fee! Nothing like raising fees on people who in the far majority live hundreds of miles away with no representation. Yes, it's my "fault" for not attending the meeting! ;-) I'm emailing this gem to some friends for a good laugh!

BTW, I have thought wouldn't it be nice if every other municipality in the US created a 40% car rental tax for Nevada residents only... and oh.. yes, we'd be sure to have an open hearing first! ;-)

LASTLY and most importantly, note my question was "WHEN did the increase take place?". You somehow mistakenly read it as WHY did the increase take place? How is that? Please start a separate thread on that if that is what you wish to discuss.

I don't know when. If I knew, I'd tell you.

Jusisdictions throughout the country have piled on tourist taxes, knowing that the people who have to pay them generally aren't the people who vote in that jurisdiction. Bed taxes, car rental taxes, cruise ship passenger fees, stuff like that.

wjkomo, I agree that none of us Vegas outsiders has sufficient incentive to lobby Clark County to reduce its rental car fees. But we could choose to lobby our home governments to reduce their versions.

What's the bed tax where you live? Is it outrageous? If so, maybe you could march down to your City Hall and demand it be reduced. Maybe you could start a campaign to reduce it, and to make up for the revenue your city loses by an increase in your city's income, property, or sales taxes. It's only fair, right?

Nevertheless, you'd do well not to confuse your power to establish where a discussion begins for a power to control where it winds up. These threads meander. If one of us has an answer to that specific aspect of your question, I have faith they'll post it.

Deep breaths.
Well resort fees, taxes and surcharges on rental car increases, tax on hotel romms increased (with last two years) gasoline prices increased, next food prices will take an increase, and airfare keeps going up and up. Oh hell yes I can only see this getting better and better in attracting customers to Las Vegas during these troubled times we are all facing.
thegreek- Everything you mentioned is true. You neglected to mention 1)- 6/5 blackjack, 2)- the admitted to tightening of machine payback percentages 3)- tightening of comps and 4)- taxi cab pricing increases (and devious tunneling practices). Yeah, Vegas is doing a fine job of pricing themselves out of business.
WOW!!!!drmilled you are correct. Hell the rate they going foreclosures will not only be held by the home owner society. This all comes in along with competition spreading closer and closer to home. I love it when they compare the numbers like air traffice. Numbers can produce just about any results the perosn wants them to. Example if you had a shitty business year last year and you compare it to this year with a slight increase top date it's looks very upward in trending. Problem is when you are comparing poor results to a slight improvement period current year it really not so bright of a future. I just read Orlando has overtaken Las Vegas for the #1 spot as more more people leaving. One could say that's good but I would say it ranks second of the worst.
It's been $3.75 for quite a while. That's what I paid last April.
I think Dec 09 was the last time I paid $3.00
