car rental fees

Just reserved an Alamo rental-Fullsize for 2 weeks for $422. That was with a discount i.d. and costco coupon discounting the oriiginall by about $90. I know that is high but anticipate checking and reducing that begore Sept. 20.
What I find really mind blowing is $225 in surcharges and taxes!!!! Am really reconsidering this trip.
I can understand that ruthie. I just paid the highest rental car rate I think I ever had.
Half of it was the taxes/fees. Rental car cost more than my airfare, and the price never went down.
Got cheap air.............but the car was high. Normailly I'd just drive, but flying was easier this time.

You might want to get creative ruthie, and book only a few days here & there, or just
One week instead of 2. Thats awfully high.
Also, ruthie, if you haven't done this already, you might check reserving 2 different 1 week reservations using coupons separately for each week. It might be worth an extra trip to the rental facility. I think Alamo has a $45 off/week coupon good thru Sept on their website.
Just a thought....good luck.

This is quoted from another posting....
I just received an offer from Alamo;$ 50. off for weekly rental (minimum 6 days) between August 15 and September 26 for an economy to a full size car. Reserve by August 2. ID/Corp# 7015135, Coupon Code AD4004JDK.

Edit: sorry, I didn't see that that posting was expired.

$211 a week all inclusive for a full sized car is actually a decent deal these days. Prices for cars "standard" size and up are quite a bit higher than the compact level.

Wife and I are going sept 20---sept and rented a compact (really not the best choice) for $104.88 with $50. off coupon. Usually we rent mid-size or full size. we are alone this trip usally have another couple with us so compact just may work and maybe if lucky will get an upgrade.
Car rental fees are outrageous but Vegas really hits you. Anyway the $422 works out to $30 per day which isn't to bad as you can easily spend that much per day in cabs with suicidal drivers.

We always rent as we do a lot of driving to the off strip casinos.
That rental is $422 and then taxes and surcharges are $225. Total=$688
Am planning on devoting several hours to try to work this down. There has got to be a better rate
Hi did you try renting off of the airport with Dollar or another like Budget? You can have them pick you up and return to the airport.
Good Luck Always,

If you are 99% sure your trip will not be cancelled, you can go the Priceline route, and try bidding. Note, if your bid is accepted you are locked in and charged for the rental immediately, so bid low and raise it each day, if you wish.

Might want to check Priceline. They frequently offer $4 off a day to NAME your own price. I just got a standard size from Budget for $10/day. You need to make your request close to when you are traveling so it is good to have a reservation in reserve. Also, it is non-refundable so make sure of your plans but I don't think you can beat the deal even with the additional fees.
