Car rental prices

Have a trip 7/24 to 7/30. Car rental prices seem sky high. Best I have been able to get is $300 for an intermediate. Any ideas why rates are so high?

Look into renting from an offsite location. I got a car from dollar for $196 for two weeks. Picked up at the swenson Street location. A seven dollar Uber ride each way.

A little more expensive, but I like National.  Easy in & out, with free days after a few rentals.  With an emerald club membership (free) you can upgrade to a full size from midsize.

The tax situation for Vegas car rentals is nuts

Budget....comes to about $17.50/day plus taxes and fees

Its true what they say about Tuesdays.   For some reason prices drop on Tuesdays.

Going the week of 9/22/2019.  As usual had to book and rebook and rebook. Started out searching around early July among Dollar, Alamo, Thrifty, and Budget the lowest price for a Mid-size was $320 using Car Rental Savers and AutoSlash.   About a week later I got it at $300 and debooked and rebooked.  About ten days later through AutoSlash I got a price at Alamo (which would have allowed my wife to drive at no extra cost) at $280 but would need to show my BJ's card (which I have).

On 7/31/2019, through Car Rental Savers via Dollar among compacts, midsize, and Full-Size, believe it or not, Full Size was cheapest: at $202.37 (all in). I have Dollar Express (but have had a few issues with Dollar not having any cars at all at times;  or hassles getting them to  document damaged cars upon check out, etc.),  but most of the time it goes pretty quickly and smoothly at pickup. They say it will be a Chevy Malibu or equivalent. This is the best weekly price I've been able to get in a few years. I prefer Alamo (never had an issue with them) but not for $80 more than Dollar.

Update...used same codes again (on a Tuesday) and saved an extra $3/day compared to last post.

The frugal option is to rent off-airport. The airport's various fees add about 30% to the cost of your rental. Plus, you have to take that stupid shuttle over to the rental terminal (and back), so you don't even get any convenience benefits. By the time you actually get your car, half a day has passed.

You can take a city bus from the airport to any one of a number of locations for about $2. You could, for instance, go to a downtown or Strip hotel that has a rental car outlet. Even better, if you are staying at such a hotel, you can wait until the next day to rent your car and save even more $$$.

Another option is to get away from the airport--anywhere--and call Enterprise. They'll pick you up, just not from the airport (I believe).
