Car rental rates

I found another car rental online site for Vegas. Try Turo.com - these cars are rented by individuals in Vegas. I have tried to find rental cars for my next trip- the prices are outrageous. My go to site, Autoslash.com has been listing rental cars (checking for over a month) for my next long trip of 16 days for $1200.00 - about 3 to 4 times what they used to cost a few months ago. At Turo, I have rented a Toyota Carolla for $610.00, all in, for the same period. The owner will deliver and pick up the car for me at the airport. Though expensive compared to a few months ago, this price is about half of what rental cars are listed for on Autoslash.

That's quite an incentive for locals to make money. However, there's a huge danger. If you rent your car out and the renter turns it into a smoking ruin, your collision insurance won't cover it. The only guard against that would be to somehow make the renter cover collision liability, but that would require the consent of the renter's insurance company.

I'm curious how all this works.

Try renting at a location away from the airport.  I found a Hertz office on Sahara that will rent the same car for 1/2 the airport price. Includes all fees and taxes.

In lieu of the recent false accusations made by Hertz claiming renters had not returned rentals, I do not and will not consider renting a car fron Hertz now or in the future. Many people have been arrested and jailed because of these false allegations.

I dont know but I suspect it works the same way as Uber....which is to say the sharing company insures the vehicle while it's being shared.   It's definitely a lot cheaper than the rental companies are charging right now.
