December Airfare

Have been to Vegas dozens of times over the years but never Dec., noticed rooms in general seem to be dirt cheap depending on dates an am assuming because of low occupancy. Have already booked several rooms for 12/11 for 11 nights.
Based on what i have seen this year airfare has seemed to be on the rise, prices seemed to be up for all destinations. This year seems to be about 30 to 50% more on my traveling.
Question is based on travel to Vegas (I live in Florida) should i expect fares to come down as time approaches? Being close to Christmas just don't know if fares from here to Vegas is a busy time.

Thanks for any input

living in Chicago and going to Las Vegas in December for past 6 years I've found I'm able to still get good offers anywhere from $89 to $149 and usually end up paying no more than the $149, going 12-4 thru 12-9 I have booked 12-9 return for $114 am still waiting for 12-4 to reduce.
I always go to Vegas just after the rodeo leaves, generally airfare is cheaper until the weekend before Christmas
AAA stated that students going home for the holidays keeps those dates fromgetting much lower. I just arrange my flights a little earlier and actually find that the car is more expensive than the hotel stay for a week.

I am looking for good for car rental deals for Dec 8-10th time frame for a week.
Last year I went with Avis throught AAA.
We too are going in early Dec. again this year. The room rates are great but flights seem to be up, substantially up from previous years. I had a $330 round trip fare show up about a week ago, but it is now $60 higher. Should have booked it last week. Car rentals seem to get les and less expensive as the date draws nearer. I'll probably end up making at least a half dozen reservations and cancellations on cars before our arrival.

Generally fares are lower if you travel on Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday. One weekend night on 12/10 is usually fairly cheap and more than makes up for reduced airfare.
Airfares may come down as gas prices come down. Also, mid-September usually has the fall air fare sales.
I hope you are right about the Sept. fall airfare sales. Prices now are way up for our december trip.
Thanks for the car info I will try booking a few and then waiting to cancel at a later date.
I actually only had Avis last year and booked it a week in advance of my Dec. trip.
