I'm Diamond on Delta and they suck. Totally. Of course all the US airlines suck. While I agree that 25,000 miles tickets are hard to get you can ALWAYS get a free ticket to your destination by upping the miles (up to 60K for a domestic). The mistake is thinking that 25K will get a free seat, it won't. Bank on 40K a seat and you will almost always get one, for that or less.
FYI I have a CVG to LAS for 25K direct next week. I had originally booked for 40K 3 months ago and the miles kept going down. Once you get closer to the trip Delta sometimes reduces the millage cost if the plane isn't full. Happens a lot.
Plus now FF tickets are upgradable which pretty much means every ticket I get midweek is first class. Hard to complain about that.
