Dollar on Swenson

Does anybody know if the Dollar on Swenson has a "Express Member" dedicated line? I would assume that the Swenson lot is not that busy and thus may just have a general line.

The reason I ask is that I would like to see if I can tip my way up to a larger car instead of the skateboard-with-motor I rented. I know at the airport you get your documents from the special hut and then talk to the lot attendant.

Will I still have the same opportunities to present the lot attendant with an "upgrade coupon" at the Swenson location?
At the airport, Dollar Express members find their name on the flat screen by the lot booth (hut) and their car is waiting for them in the designated stall number. No reason to check in with the attendant as the paperwork is already in the car. Once in awhile your name will have a See Attendant instruction rather than a stall number, in which case you would have to check in at the booth.

I think fredorules misread rkorbyl's question. Anyone know the answer?

I rented at the Swenson facility a couple of years ago and the facility is small and there were no other customers there picking up or dropping off cars. I do not recall there being a dedicated person at the Express Window, but they may have an Express line that puts you next at the first available window if they were busy. So although I had Express Membership, it really did not require waiting in line at the time withor without express membership. If I remember the process correctly, upon a quick check-in inside at the desk (since the paperwork was done in advance), a lot person then brought the car up to the front door of the facility for me. Could you successfully bribe them at the check-in counter to have the lot people bring you a more expensive class of car than you are paying for: I can't answer that?

That is no longer the case at the Dollar airport facility. You no longer are pointed to a section of cars by the lot person at the airport. In the garage with Express your name is shown on an electronic sign with a parking space number next to it. In taht parking spot you have a specific car that already was preselected before your arrival and it is placed next to the hut/kisok in the garage in a numbered spot assigned to you. So there is no negotiation about which car you are getting upon your arrival. It was preselected from the class of car you are paying for.

At Swenson, the "upgrade coupon" would have to be offered to the counter person, not the lot person for any chance of success.

One advantage to Swenson is that you pay no fees that relate to airport charges there. The base charges are typically higher at Swenson than the airport, however, so they may nuillify one another or even make the total charge higher at Swenson even with no airport fees added.

A tip that some may not know about is that although you pick up at Swenson, you can dropoff at the airport facility (if you choose) with no airport charges or added charges from Dollar.

Thanks for the great info. But, when I booked the car, I choose to drop the car off at the airport and there was an additional charge of $10.00.

That's something new. New fees seem to be creeping in everywhere.

Condiment fees at restaurants will probably be next.

Have a good trip.

I have used the Swenson location for pick up but it must have been 2-3 years ago. My Experience was much like straub66. Small facility & I do not recall a dedicated express line. In fact, no lines whatsoever as there were only maybe 1 or 2 other clients there at the time. After check in we were handed keys to a specific vehicle. We did request (at check in) a complimentary upgrade but the clerk said there were limited cars on the lot - not really opportunity for a lot of choice.

Complimentary upgrades (even with tip) seem to be more difficult to score these days. Most recently we have used Alamo & where it once was easy to get a double upgrade, this no longer seems to be the case. We have noticed that it often depends on the lot person - some are more flexible with this issue. So, I no longer count on it as a given.
Well... I just got back from my trip and I used the Swenson location for the pick up. It was rather painless even though there was no Dollar Express line at this location. There was only one person in front of me and the process was real quick. So, I saved about $100 by renting at this location. It is very close to the airport and I chose to be real frugal an use the CAT bus (#108) which dropped my off about a block away.

You could easily take a cab from the airport to this location which would have cost no more than 6-7 dollars to get there (in my opinion).

Save some money and try this location. Their inventory is not that large so don't expect much other than saving a few dollars.
Any time I've looked at possibly renting from this location or the hotel locations I found the rates to be much higher (with exception of 1 time) than the airport prices. While I would save a ton of cash from not having to pay the airport taxes, the increased rates offset the savings and have always made it cheaper or the same to rent from the airport.
