Dollar Rate Drop

Just updated my Dollar car rental. I'm renting for 2 weeks, Aug 26 - Sept 9:
Previous rate for midsize Dodge Avenger: $381
New rate for midsize Dodge Avenger: $300
…savings of $81…sweet!

OOOOOWWWWEEE. I love these boards. After reading Smerrians post I thought that I would take a look at Dollar to see if is possible that my $110 weekly (190.72 including fees) had gone down (for a midsize). And yes it has!!! Base rate now 85.00 (157.70 incl) for a Lock and tow. I just saved $33.00 which will allow me an extra bet or 2 at the craps table.

August 13th can't get here fast enough!!

If you are willing to invest a little time, you might be able to save some additional money on your two week rental - this trick sometimes works.

Check the price of 2 one week rentals and see if it improves your total by an amount acceptable enough to offset having to go to the rental car center in the middle of your trip to trade in one car and get another car. Sometimes you can even keep the original car if you like it.

This normally works if you are using a coupon that takes $x off on a weekly rental. It may not work in this case, but it may help someone else.

I learned this trick years ago from westie.

Thanks for the tip. I recently retired…thus I'm new to 2-week trips. I think my current rate of $80/wk ($150/wk once you include taxes and fees) is about the best I will be able to get…but I'll try again 2 weeks before I leave for Vegas!

The rate I got was on "they choose vehicle" and I was expecting a compact, ended up with a Ford SUV. We just asked for a light colored vehicle. Pleasant surprise.
Already have my reservation for the Oct trip with Budget and it is for an SUV for 7 days at a total of $135.00...don't think I will bother changing that one!
