Dollar/Thrifty unauthorized charges

An interesting article about Dollar/Thrifty charging for insurance when customers refused coverage.

Caveat emptor!

DOLLAR rental car extra charges.

Sorry, there is a commercial before the video.

Very interesting, thanks for that! And people, note that also mentioned in that report is that Hertz is the Parent Company for both Dollar and Thrifty!

So read every single, solitary thing on the contract that you get before you sign it! But this is a very bad development!

I don't believe they are still owned by Hertz.

Yes they are.

We discussed this last month after the New York Times ran a story.

I don't think it's necessary for an experienced renter to read every line of a major rental car company's contract at every rental. If a company tries to deviate from accepted industry practice, which a clause adding mandatory insurance to the quoted rate would be, they'll have a heavy burden to demonstrate that they alerted the renter to the change, or face a huge class action suit run by competing drooling hordes of attorneys looking for a sure winner.

Reading every word of the contract won't hurt but is overkill.
With both, I am on their fast track program (whatever the name is) and part of my profile states no insurance requested...I have a print out of it. When I've used them, the contract has already been fully filled in per my profile, so I've never been asked if I want insurance. Seems to work for me.
Works for me too!
Me three, although I have to admit that even though it's prudent to check the receipt they print out for you when you turn in the car, I only give it a casual glance over because it's just too dark in that garage!

Yep, you're right; sorry.
What works for me is not renting from Dollar.
