Driving from Houston to Vegas. Best route?

I thought I had gotten info on here before our trip last year, but can't seem to find it.  We are headed out in about two weeks. Went last summer and all was well. We came up through Amarillo to I40. Spent the night in Albequerque, but not we sure we want to drive that far the first day again. Any hotel recommendations for the night? Nothing fancy. Thanks so much for any help in advance.

I like staying in Flagstaff  when I make the drive from Florida more than ABQ but it is farther if I am on 40.  In NM  there is not many places to stay on I 10 so I prefer 40.  Lots of Mom and Pop hotels near ASU in Flagstaff and you can walk to the Old Town which is nice.

In Tuscon if you take I 10 there is a Sheraton by the airport that is OK and from Tuscon you can get to Vegas in a day.

If you like to drive at night, you may plan around the 21st. Very large and bright full moon, then.

When we drove from Seattle,we planned our trip around the full moon cycles. In the desert,it really helps to see much better. Away from the city lights, there are a million/billion stars in the sky.Our car had really good headlights and there was hardly ANY traffic, but we had to watch out for night critters.

In January, you may find that you have to drive in snowy conditions and I don't like that at all.
